Worried about the tyre deg. Even tho we’re running a hefty beam wing.
Tyre deg looks to be better than FP1 since they were struggling to get the tyres up to temperature in Sprint Quali.
Saw the Mclaren’s and Red Bull deg and I am slightly at ease. Seems to me that running the bigger beam wing was the right call.

Any hope of an upset for Merc or are they just lacking a bit of the ultimate pace this weekend do we think?

Did McL and Ferrari show some bad deg?

What happened, Nobody could come close to George in FP1 on mediums. But it was a totally different car on the softs

@FDataAnalysis
- Everyone used Mediums: McL and Mercedes were quickest (Excluding ALO/OCO who did just 3 valid laps). Mercedes' degradation was high

- VER was slowest: RBR used very low PU modes and a lot of fuel (slow in the fast corners)

Merc most likely had their engines turned up during the runs on the medium tires in FP1, they were unusually quicker than Ferrari on the straights

It’s not surprising because they were running a skinner rear wing vs Ferrari. However everything that translates to top-speed is not based on just aero, you have to take in account with the Camber and Toe settings each team uses during any given weekend. Engine modes does have indeed make a difference but, it’s not conclusive to what the team was running.

Both Mercs were using Strat mode 8, on Reddit someone made a comment about the different strats and what they mean and I thank them for that, Strat 8
Is regular deployment.

Antonelli is so far out from George in qualifying. It has always been George's forte, but I wasn't expecting the gap to be that large, regardless of the tire warmups. Anyway, on the upside, he doesn't have anything to lose at this stage and should go aggressively at the start to gain some places and he would get another shot at qualifying tomorrow.
Antonelli is in his 2nd quali ever... Give him time, after his AUS race to me he's by far the best rookie of the bunch and it's not going to be particularly close, let him develop.

Kimi was within 1 tenth of George on the runs in SQ1 and SQ2. He's never raced at this circuit. He's never done the 1 shot soft tire runs with this car that is new to him. He made a mistake in T1 on his single run in SQ3. That's it.

Minimum tyre pressure increased by Pirelli after qualifying. Concerns on tyre durability.

Wonder if that might help Merc if they are running higher DF?

To me, there appeared some "loose" correlation last year with this in W15 car. It just seemed to be better with increased pressures, particularly rear, that's in advance of the effect that had on other chassis.

Unsure if true, but Vegas, Silverstone and Belgium come immediately to mind.

We'll see in sprint if it looks more competitive after that change.

Tremendous lap from George. Would be keen to watch that one back- I think George, Max and Oscar all made up time in S3- George more than the other two I believe.

Be interesting to see if they can manage the tyres best tomorrow- hard tyre new for everyone of course.

Car is much more consistent than W15 for sure.
Two top 3 finishes in a row for George.
Mr. Saturday indeed. Best qualifier in F1?
For Sure!!
