Red Bull RB20

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Please could somebody explain to me why is zerpod? They literally use the same side pods as last year with only one change is the axis change of the inlet. But is also only speculation because at RB official site there are only a catfish mouth horizontal inlet at same place as last year, but on the livery had? both.

That's just a fake sidepod like the W13 in Barcelona

I think what people seem forget is from the inlet back the two W13 Barcelona spec sidepods were very similar, Redbull would have to lose an awful lot of sidepod to go full zeropod and they would have to do that with zero testing

Wow, if RedBull really bring zero pods, and it works, the Mercedes engineers will all be out the back of the wind tunnel blowing their brains out! :o
And if it doesn’t work it’ll prove the move away from the concept was the right choice. Saying that, I don’t think we’re going to see a full fat zeropod from RB.
Semi-skimmed zeropod?
They have been using the sidepod to control ‘used-up’ air & push it outboard of the rear wheels, even if they have pulled the cooling inboard towards the centreline (as with the original zeropod concept) they are still able to use the vacant space purely as bodywork.

The front of the launch sidepod has a very interesting profile at the outboard vertical edge that should be yaw insensitive (like the front wheel pods on the previous-gen LMP1 cars.
Perspective - Understanding that sometimes the truths we cling to depend greatly on our own point of view.

We see on the W13B an version of the bathubs on top
W14 had the final evolution that RB20 adopted

I think we're straying too far into the realm of speculation on this at the moment

You can see here how shrink wrapped the rear of the W13 was before testing in 2022 and the RB20 would have to lose significantly more than that to go full zeropod

It makes sense if the real car is only coming in Japan

This is not the Mercedes thread or the thread where we claim Mercedes is vindicated or that their engineers will "blow their brains out" based on a rumor. I can't believe this has to be said.

The current exterior and sidepod design is planned for high-temperature tests and the first three races.
Red Bull plans to bring its "own zeropod" design to the Japanese Grand Prix weekend!
Mercedes was not successful in the zeropod design, let's see what Red Bull will do

Only based on one report. Some good sources contradict what the Autosport article writes.

The source above which seems to back up Autosport is a reporter from Turkish Motorsport which is essentially the same company (given Autosport was bought by Motorsport.com)

Autosport may be interpreting 'Zeropod' differently to you or I might compared to a layperson. It's very easy for them to deploy the term zeropod and hook a bunch of clicks

Autosport and Motorsport are essentially the same thing... They have not been independent entities ever since Motorsport bought Autosport. For instance, if you go to motorsport.com photo archive it has the same photos as autosport, and Autosport articles use content from Motorsport and vice versa. It's no surprise that a Motorsport TR reporter will have the same info as Autosport

The car at the launch will not be the same as the Bahrain test and the car will receive an update at Japan but the reports of full on zeropods is I don't think accurate based on what I've heard. Essentially sensationalism
