A driver is driving the car and if he´s really talented he can also drive development of the car and drive the team to become better ...what hecan´t do is lift the car to podium finishes when it´s at 105 or 106 % of the necessary elapsed time to be at the front..
What about McLaren years?

Then again, remember when they were driving decent cars and not in the back while they wait to inherit a race position due to the withdrawal of any of the guys head. In regar to Marussia, I remember Block being slapped by d'ambrosio.

slapped ? I don´t remember he got slapped..Kovalainen won a Gp for Mclaren as far as i can remember ..Not many drivers came this far.
But frankly I don´t think any of them is really a potential champ ,I´m afraid.

Yeah, poor Massa. That was a sad engine failure.

I think its a been harsh judging Kovalainen only by his McLaren stint. Whole point of joining Caterham was evolving. In my opinion, he is far better driver by now. Glock on the other hand have not impressed me that much, but he was tagged as "talented" before he downgraded his car - maybe he peaked before, less room for improvement, maybe?

Glock is arguably a better driver than Heikki, and is faster over a lap than the Finn, however the thing about Kova is that he is on a free transfer at the end of the season to use a football term. He is also friends with Alonso as well, and according to the Renault guys, back in 2006 both were widley simmilar telemetry wise, with Alonso only a couple tenths faster then.

Glock is on a contract at Marussia in 2013, but that contract is rumored to be ring fenced in certain terms. But its not clear what terms. Also Alonso and Glock have had a few falling outs in the past, especially in 2008/2009 when Glock was at Toyota and Alonso at his Renault second term.

Its likley that Kova will be at Ferrari in 2013 as its looking likley that in 2014 Vettel will be at Maranello, however my gut is saying Webber. Kova will then either step down to Sauber if Schumacher gives 2013 as his final year there or Kova may move into the LMP1 project that Ferrari are looking at alongside Massa.

Hamilton has thrown a massive injection into the driver market, and im looking at the 2013 grid looking like this:

01/02: Scuderia-Ferrari = Alonso/Kovalinenn TD: Massa/Rigon/Gene
03/04: Red Bull-Renault = Vettel/Webber TD: Buemi
05/06: McLaren-Mercedes = Button/Perez TD: Paffett/Turvey
07/08: Einstone-Renault = Raikkonen/Grosjena TD: D'Ambrosio (Team will be re-branded in the pre season to ditch Lotus ties)
09/10: Mercedes AMG = Hamilton/Rosberg TD: Bird/Hartley
11/12: Sauber-Ferrari = Schumacher/Alguersauri TD: Guiteriez/Frings
14/15: Force India-Mercedes = Di Resta/Hulkenberg TD: Bianchi/Razia
16/17: Williams-Renault = Maldanado/Bottas TD: Wolff
18/19: STR-Ferrari = Riccardo/Vergne TD: Buemi
20/21: Marussia-Cosworth = Glock/Chilton TD: Haryanto
22/23: Caterham-renault = Senna/Van Der Garde TD: Rossi/Pic
24/25: HRT-Cosworth = De la Rosa/Ma TD: Clos

Massa, Kobiyashai, Petrov, Pic, Karthekeyn will all go with no space for Valsecchi who will becone a second Pantano fron GP2.

Why do you say that? Webber in 2013 already has a contract.

Is this a fact? I been wondering about this "name issue" for months. Do you have a source to read about this? Thanks!

PD: I would like them to be "Renault" again, i think its been a shame the "lotus" names in this past seasons... two teams fighting like cats for it..and then the both kinda drop it...

I ment Webber to Ferrari in 2014.

Nothing concrete, however the fact they cannot go back to be known as Renault as that right is owned by Renault Sport F1, and with the loss of the €75m a year deal from Lotus Cars (Who only paid their initial installment of €5m this year) id like to thinkt that Lopez and Bullier will be looking to loose the Lotus tag and become something else. I am going with the team to be called Einstone as their car is the E20 this year and next year will be the E21. I think would be a really good name personally. The team has been linked with a €35m three-year deal in 2013 to Mastercard for title sponsorship however, but that news is about 4-5 months old now, and nothing has came of it as far as i know.

The team needs to try and get as much quality sponsorship on the car as they can, as the areas left by the Lotus logos will leave the car looking a little bare. I also think that a team name change in on the way as well with new sponsorship injections into the team.

Personally, this is where id be looking if i were CocaCola to inject some cash into, as they have been looking at F1 in recent times, as they want to eat into Red Bulls market share that they have lost top Red Bull. And a Coke Zero or Sugar Free livery would be a nice fit to the car i think, both would keep the black with either white or the gold kept. Also they could alternitivly put the Relentless or Powerade branding on a whole new livery as well.

He bought the 25% owned by Lloyds about 6 weeks ago.

And with Aon rumored to be leaving McLaren, id recon that Aon will be a sponsor of the Marussia team next year, probably plastered on the side pods like Chiltons GP2 cars livery.

Why Mclaren didnt pick Paul Di Resta?

Post

It was widely speculated that Paul Di Resta; who is now managed by Jenson's manager, is one of the most likely driver to fill the empty seat vacant by LH. I was wondering why Mclaren choose Perez instead? And how is this going to affect the career of this young and promising driver.

Could be he wanted a more long term contract, i believe Perez contract is only for 2 years.
2nd year you are just starting to get into it (for most) and then he can be tossed aside for a better driver.
With 3 years you create safety for yourself and if you have a bad year you have another crack at it next year.

Someone in another thread (I forget who...sorry) theorized that Mclaren may not have wanted to have 2 drivers with the same management because that makes negotiations difficult
