You forgot that McLaren was not even pushing. So they are quite a step ahead.

Still a little bit of understeer in the middle of low speed corners like last year, but much less pronounced.
Once they fix that I hope they can fully fight the McLaren. Suzuka should be good, a fast track.

If Mercedes keep focusing on upgrades for the suspension/dampers and upgrades to keep the tyres in check, well, you do the math.

Question:

Does Antonelli actually go by Kimi, or has his middle name just stuck in the context of F1? Everything I've seen seems to imply that Andrea is the name he actually goes by. Everyone, including Bono and the F1TV commentary team calls him Kimi though.

Does he go by Andrea or Kimi? Does anyone know?

Neither was GR, though. He was just looking after the tires.

Although I’d dispute your claim that Norris wasn’t pushing Piastri until his brake issues began.

Unusual coincidence that Andrea Kimi Antonelli forms the acronym AKA meaning As Known As :D

I feel he's completing his first steps really well. Seems to be on a tight leash in regard to driving pace and aspirations, rightly so in my view. If collectively the team around him can hold onto this initial phase, such that it effectively keeps him a little out of the spotlights, that makes for valuable conditions in which to find his feet. Looks like it's going according to a comprehensive plan, this should gently bring confidence and experience in to fruition.

Public interview too, seems very well grounded and balanced from the bits I've seen so far.

Looking like a good season for him.

How is Mercedes in the low-medium speed? They ran really well on the high speed aero dependent tracks last year and it seems to be the case this year as well. Hoping for George and Max to finish 1 - 2 in Japan and Jeddah to slow down McLaren.

As I understand it, they're not great in the low speed, but have great traction through the medium speed and run well in the high speeds. McLaren are perhaps that bit quicker in all three however, but it's close.

I think they have a chance of another podium in Japan potentially.

James Allison:
Our primary focus has been on dialling out the W15’s slight reluctance to turn in slow corners, along with the imbalance in tyre temperatures that made the car inconsistent from session to session,”
The Race:
..That said, Russell’s lap came out of nowhere as his experimentation with preparation laps paid off right at the end.

..His biggest gain was through the slow Turn 9, where he found almost 0.2s

..The Ferrari is, as usual, the fastest into slow corners. The Mercedes is getting out of the corners the best.

Seems like the car’s behavior is pretty consistent even at high asphalt temperatures. W16 may be the best car Merc has made in this reg set. All it needs is to improve the tyre wear in order to catch those pesky Mclarens.
