There was a pole in this car with the Mclarens making mistakes.
The track changed immensely in Q3. It was almost a crap shoot.

I don't think track position made a huge difference this time. The conditions were deteriorating (see the delta between Q2 and Q3 times). I wouldn't blame the team this time.

They had good pace in Q1 and Q2. Q3 was not random.

Looking at telemetry. Stroll pretty much executed a perfect lap. Had 3 purple mini sectors in sector 3.

Alonso had 3 orange micro sectors in sector 3. Also the wind direction was stronger during alonso and strolls runs compared to leclerc

At least the car's drag was put to good use around this circuit. I hope Singapore in a few month's time can give similar competitiveness.

Lance actually speaking to media with Sky and not sounding like he is only there because he has to for once.

Lance 0.1s off pole?? Alo there with his back issues wow.
Car was insane today.
Indeed. Hope the race pace can be the real surprise guys! Imagine our race pace is better than our qualifying pace like 2023?

A week ago they were the last team.

Today, Alo is a tenth away from pole, with back issues.

And Stroll is just as fast as Alo.

And it was so from Q1 to Q3, not just some random laps.

Well... Obviously something must have happened to the car.

Alonso was 0.027 up on leclerc at turn 16 then. So close. Hopefully race pace is decent for a solid points finish

Need to see telemetry but I feel like alonso must have had made a mistake considering he was a couple tenths faster than stroll in q1/q2. Also just realised that tenth could be due to going earlier
Stroll finished ahead of Alonso in Q2, with a pretty much faultless lap. He was doing a fine job today, no wonders it was close. In fact, they were separated by thousandths in S2 & S3.
Alonso did one lap at the beginning of Q2 which was good enough to not need to go out again. Stroll did 2. Thats why he ended up ahead in q2. But I think it was actually an advantage to do another run at the end of q2 because you get a better read of track conditions for your q3 lap
Wind changed from when Lance did his last lap in Q2 to his Q3 lap.

It's hard to pass here, Remember Hamilton trying to pass Alonso in the Alpine here? Took like 10 laps and the Merc was alot faster (over a second a lap faster) than the Alpine..

Undercut will be the weapon of choice tomorrow and a podium might be possible…

Hopefully they learned from imola and split the strategy. Or depending on race start have whoever is behind back up the pack a bit
