Vodafone McLaren MP4-27 Mercedes

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

A mistake saying they will do a high downforce setup on a high downforce track ? :P

You gotta be trolling.
Maybe he was pointing at the mp4-25
That's history of 2010, right now mclaren are using MP4-27.

Well, there doesn't appear to be anything out of the ordinary coming out at the front, so if anything it'd be a "device"-type DDRS. I believe Scarbs dubbed it DRD. However, the airbox does not appear to sport the secondary air intake as seen on the Lotus, Merc and on last year's car. Actually, I'd say it looks more like he's looking at something in the sidepod area if anything.

edit: forget the secondary air intake comment, doesn't appear to be fitted yet

Have they always run that big of a hole beneath the main intake?

Or is the brightness/contrast playing with the image?

Edit: i guess that it would be useless if it were the DRS intake there.

So what alternator does Mclaren use?

Is it the same as Mercedes? Or is it provided by a 3rd party company?

Negative. Mika above you got it right: McLaren does their own alternators.
