Congratulations with WCC & WDC guys, the team has knocked it out of the park with the PU once again. And the chassis is no slouch either!

can someone smarter than me explain this telemetry chart? why is the merc top speed so low?
Different deployment/charging strategies.

Mercedes doesn't superclip on the run to T1, does superclip to T3, then doesn't lift and coast to T6 but then superclips/lift and coasts to T9.

Ferrari and Red Bull are doing mostly the opposite. Major difference is T6 where Ferrari and Red Bull start to charge the battery heavily which gives them more "juice" on the straight to T9.

Ah ah love your post and I hope you are correct!

But please don’t give us hope!

IMO, It should be a tight battle with Ferrari (unfortunately), Max & the McLaren MB also

Andrew Shovlin: Overall the day finished in a decent place, but our first session was very messy. We had a few configuration issues on the power unit side that took a couple of runs to unpick. On top of that, the balance of the car wasn't great for either driver. That affects our cornering speeds, which in turn impacts the deployment.

We had a good recovery ahead of FP2; the power unit was working as intended and the car was responding a lot better after a few set-up changes. Having finished the morning somewhat on the back foot, we were able to put together a solid programme with decent long runs from both drivers. That's given us good information ahead of the race on Sunday but there are still a few areas that we need to make progress on overnight. We're into that work already and hopefully can find a bit more pace to deliver a strong team result in Qualifying tomorrow.

When was the last time, let alone after a major change of technical regulations, you saw genuine title fight between 4 different teams? Completely unrealistic scenario. We will be lucky if we get any season-long inter team battle this year.

An interesting fact: on his best lap Antonelli with the Mercedes practically doesn't do LiCo. Hamilton with the Ferrari does two small ones before braking in T3 and T6, while Piastri with the McLaren does 3 huge ones in the first sector, then concentrating the deployment on the subsequent traction.

I was mentioning this with the whole "compression ratio" thing... that I didn't necessarily believe that was Mercedes only advatange. What if Mercedes advantage isn't just the horsepower output, but it's consistency in deployment and gradual recharge through the lap?

2009 Brawn GP / JB & RB with Vettel ?

2022 Charles /Ferrari and RB with Max ?

Sure, it’s not a four-team fight all year, but it’s extremely entertaining… that’s all that matters to me. But I see your point. I’m just excited to see the beginning of 2026. I genuinely believe we might see a lot of different race winners, like in 2009.

Will it be possible to fix it before qualifying? I don't think so...

They have to take time to inspect the monocoque before even considering sticking new parts back on it. Gearbox and PU also need inspected.
