Ferrari 2017 Contender Speculation Thread

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

So-called "Mercedes-style" front wing

(Still can't believe Marchionne let that guy leave.)
Can we necessarily credit Allison that much on F14T design points though? Weren't these far more Fry/Tombazis driven?

(Edit: and don't say the F14T was more Alonso/Raikkonen driven ;) )

(Wow, downvote for that? I mean, I don't care, but can't see how anyone could really dislike it so much...)

Is it me or is that illusion to me? That rear wing widens towards the back.

The RW Endplate is stepped on the Front and straight on the Rear. So yes, the lower part of the Endplate is angled outwards while the upper part is straight. Don't know if that's legal though or just in the Picture. The Right hand side Endplate looks straight .

If that's teh case then it would be an extension of the diffusor, as long as they can separate the flow over the floor.

I singled out Allison mostly just so I could include the Lotus images, especially the front wing that everyone credits to Mercedes. I like how it all complements this:
Marchionne was shocked to discover that Allison's team had shot down and discarded technical solutions from some lower level Ferrari engineers, that then were used on the Mercedes car that is dominating for the third year in a row.
If that's the metric by which designs and designers should be judged...

I don't know. But it appears to me that the left rear wing end plate is different to the right.

Yes the rear wing endplates curve from 840mm to 950mm, and the curve starts 450mm above the reference plane. Within this box you have total freedom with the curve geometry as long as the endplate stays within the appropriate width .

3.5.2 The width of bodywork behind the rear wheel centre line and more than 450mm above the reference plane must not exceed 950mm.
3.5.3 The width of bodywork behind the rear wheel centre line and between 200mm and 450mm above the reference plane must not exceed 840mm.

The drawing is attempting to show symmetrical rear wing end plates. From what I can see, they are exactly the same.

The left hand end plate has a cutout at the front edge that goes to the top.

The right hand end plate has a cutout at the front edge that goes to the bottom.

What is going on with the bargeboards. This area appears to fit the "unusual shapes" description we've heard coming out of the Ferrari camp.

Usually I'd expect to see barge boards in the yellow box, or thereabouts. In this drawing it looks like they are combining BATWING + BARGE Board (thus named the Board Box) into a boxed aero-element.

The green lines are my rough section lines of the body and the align with the white Board Box, I'm pretty good at reading drawings and I cannot see how the white surfaces are offset from the body. This or the offset is very minimal at the top edge of the barge surface, almost flush with the red bodywork.
