So there was still some potential to "unlock" inside the PU in SPA and Monza in the engine mappings. That increased some issues unfortunately and also at Spa it was the same thing. We needed higher performance, which is why we introduced the new Spec 3 engine, but we didn't have enough time to set up and tune and check. So that made us have so many issues over Spa/Monza. But it is what we needed to do.
But I got the feeling that was the same for previous upgrades. It took them 2 or 3 races to improve or max out the performance of the PU after the upgrade.Joseki wrote:hurril wrote:Anything in particular that gave you that feeling?loner wrote:after reading Hasegawa i got the feeling the PU was running in safe mode in spa and monzaSo there was still some potential to "unlock" inside the PU in SPA and Monza in the engine mappings. That increased some issues unfortunately and also at Spa it was the same thing. That speed increase isn't completely indicative of the performance gain either. They are likely running increased down force because of the increased output from the PU as well and that would affect top speed. So would if they are now running a mode that allows increased harvesting from exhaust energy. And based on comments over the last month or two, they are running modes where harvesting has become far better. So we can probably safely assume the PU has improved greatly, more so than we can glean just from the top speed difference vs 2015.godlameroso wrote:Postby godlameroso » Sun Aug 28, 2016 10:51 pm
Engine power wise, they've taken a modest but noticeable step forward, ~6kph gained on the straights, I'm sure there's more to come from it. I wouldn't be surprised if they ran somewhat conservatively, we may see them eek out a little more performance from it for the next race. Who knows
We could collate all of the horsepower number differences from all of the articles and the internet, then average them out to get a number. I bet the "wisdom of the crowd" would probably be pretty close to reality.Juzh wrote:The horsepower numbers and how much one manufacturer is behind another one are different in every single article you can find and read on the internet. I'd take all of them with a pinch of salt.
Now that I would believe. It wasn't very good back when they were running their NA F1 engines, either. It was very peaky if I remember right.mclaren111 wrote:Karun Chandhok said on TV that the Honda Engine's driveability are a lot worse than all the others !!
It'll be the Mclaren Civic.mclaren111 wrote:Motorsport.com:Interesting commentsHasegawa:
Hasegawa will not reveal too many details about what Honda is working on right now, but he is clear that the main focus will be on improving the internal combustion element.
"For next year, without tokens we can completely redesign the engine inside the regulations. So we started our combustion chamber and packaging from the zero point," he said. "The combustion and the ICE will be the biggest difference."
"We cannot disclose the complete package right now but the name of the engine – the size zero – all engines need to be smaller as a package. So we don't want to give up the name of 'size zero'. But of course we will repackage.
"But it is difficult to say what is different...we modified many areas but difficult to say if it is a completely different engine."
It would go with Alonso's comments about the general lack of grip. I fear their compressor takes too many rpms to deliver adequate boost and this makes the engine peaky.dren wrote:Now that I would believe.
