Then you misinterpret the FP times...the Redbulls had superb long runs, much better than Williams or Ferrari. And Ric did not have single, fast laps, but he did several constant, perfect laps on the inters in Q2 which have been always in the range of the Mercs. The only problem for Redbull is the lack of power, so if he gets into the pack and is held up in the corners, he will have big problems on the straights.
