Not great, not terrible, a decent performance.
Specially considering that this was a track where we expected the Team to struggle a lot… Top speeds weren’t an issue even without DRS, I kept watching live timing and the top speeds weren’t uncompetitive… Maybe the car loss a bit in terms of downforce to achieve it, but hopefully they are starting to find more DF from the floor and allowed to run smaller wings and shed some drag… It is also good considering that the consensus is that the Mercedes engine is a bit lacking (and Lando was using his old engine an old engine from the pool).
That's for 2024 not for next year. By the time the simulator and the wind tunnel is ready the 2023 car will have been already fully developed.Darth-Piekus wrote: ↑10 Jul 2022, 16:42Next year should be the big gamble as the team will have both Wind Tunnel and Simulator ready and up to date with the latest upgrade. There should be no excuses as Zak Brown said next year.
The higher altitude of the Red Bull Ring probably helped mitigate some of the drag penalty, but it's all relative to the competition. The car looked really quick in the second half of the lap where downforce was needed, so car still has plenty of it.SmallSoldier wrote: ↑10 Jul 2022, 16:38Specially considering that this was a track where we expected the Team to struggle a lot… Top speeds weren’t an issue even without DRS, I kept watching live timing and the top speeds weren’t uncompetitive… Maybe the car loss a bit in terms of downforce to achieve it, but hopefully they are starting to find more DF from the floor and allowed to run smaller wings and shed some drag… It is also good considering that the consensus is that the Mercedes engine is a bit lacking (and Lando was using his old engine an old engine from the pool).
There is still a big gap to the top 2, but in regards to the midfield, they are in thick of it
The 2023 car should have it’s in-season development using the new wind tunnel and simulator.Emag wrote: ↑10 Jul 2022, 16:44That's for 2024 not for next year. No issues with track limits incurring a penalty, but on the same level as running another car of the road? Causing a collision which could severely compromise, or even end another drivers race? F1 has the most unbalanced rule books in the history of rule books.SmallSoldier wrote: ↑10 Jul 2022, 16:14Why? If the race notes indicate that Track Limits will be enforced in certain turns, it is up to the drivers to make sure they comply with it.
Driver’s also have to infringe track limits 3 times to get a black and white flag and a forth time to get a penalty… There is no reason to not enforce them properly.
Only caveat being the old wind tunnel data won't necessarily marry with the new one. Any benefit might not be seen until 2024.Ground Effect wrote: ↑10 Jul 2022, 16:52The 2023 car should have it’s in-season development using the new wind tunnel and simulator.Emag wrote: ↑10 Jul 2022, 16:44That's for 2024 not for next year.
