I think you and J_a_F have it clearly and it's really a lack of consistent team management and not always having the car.
Ferrari don't often build a dog so they?

It’s highly likely that Leclerc will start last in the next race.

This season is getting worse and worse by each race, underlining how terribly managed this team is.

When the role call of "equipped " drivers (that were capable of championship) is considered, Mansell, Prost Alesi ? etc, then came Schumacher, notably with a whole gang of capable managerial potential that succeeded ultimately because of that. Then post Schumacher, with exception of Räikkönen (influenced by competitor failure) and subsequently Alonso + Vettel, that's worked its way through some considerable list of distinction in driver potential, and so many failing to breach the bar of success in WDC. Then the long term Scuderia management style must certainly be scrutinesd.

There were press reports, post Schumacher, of the team intending to focus on being more Italian in personnel and outlook, which has got them to here with the history clearly recorded as to it's success, or not.

There's no criticism from me (intended or otherwise) of Italy or Italian culture, but recognising that individual countries can give very individual outlook and direction one to another. Italy has brought many fabulous and individual attributes to history. But is it a match, in this topic, for English based F1 teams ?
English, because they are based in England and take so many championships. The chief assets of which to me are the hugely diverse countries of origin within team personnel, it seems to make the most of combined and different thinking from so many diverse backgrounds in melding the most effective large group performance to advantage, a potent one too.

The method here stands far more than on an individual's nation of origin, but rather their singular potential in contributing to a team performance. It really distills ideas by considerable cross examination of those ideas in very fluid technical appreciation.

It’s almost certain that Leclerc will take an engine penalty and start from the back in Madrid.

Good luck mounting a recovery drive on that tight circuit. The goal will be to bring the car home in one piece.

Perfect opportunity to force him into a new ‘team first’ dynamic by towing HAM around in Q3…should they even get there 😂

Because of his error crashing into the barriers at Parabolica? :wtf:
Are you sure the brand new engine is gone?
I wonder if they have to put him on an old specification?

Leclerc's engine is almost certainly toast. I saw a video of the crash filmed from the grandstands where you can hear the engine still running after the accident and after Leclerc had gotten out of the car. It didn't stop until the marshal hit the kill switch.

Apparently, a decision on this will be made tomorrow.

They might be able to fix it back at base in time for Baku and just put an older spec engine in the car for the time being because overtaking looks tough for this circuit.

If the engine is gone then surely it makes more sense to change it in Baku and just use an older spec around Madrid.

So it’s the teams fault that Leclerc may have to take a new engine because he binned it. Again…..

The FIA results that emerged in Monte Carlo regarding the performance of the various endothermic engines were clear, for those who had forgotten them: the difference between the Ferrari ICE and the Mercedes ICE was between 6 and 8%, in terms of hp between 35 and 40 hp, a gap that is far from negligible in a regulation that has made the engine even more central than in the past. As we anticipated, the step forward of Ferrari's new engine specification would not have closed the gap with the Mercedes engine, rather getting closer while still remaining distant. And after the race came Vasseur's direct confirmation: "We didn't expect to close the gap with ADUO 1 and ADUO 2," he said, before adding: "Of course, the goal is to close the gap as quickly as possible. But I didn't expect to close the gap to Mercedes in two months."
Fortunately for Ferrari, the gap will grow again when Mercedes brings the ADUO. The back half of the season will be a Mclaren-Mercedes affair.

I think you’ll find it will be the entire regulation.

I was trying to let people down gently...

This ADUO situation has already corrupted the entire regulation cycle. Mercedes has received a windfall that will sustain them for the next 3 seasons.

However the benchmark is Red Bull ( lol ) which is standing still, is it possible that with ADUO2 Ferrari fall in the 2-4% range, so losing one of the two tokens for 2027?

Charles has a real warrior spirit, like young Raikkonen did. Fight tooth and nail till the last corner or crash.

He needs a Rob Smedley type RE who can reign him in and stop throwing points away. It's not always a DNF, Miami is another good example. Tires were absolutely shot, but he still kept pushing too hard trying to get his position back on the last lap.

In Monza, a small element of bad luck with the drain cover, but again, dial it back a little.
