France is a fairly fast, if a bit rubbish, so should be ok for Mclaren.

France is similar to Canada, except for the third sector, where there are slow drawn-out turns that can help us. But, I'm afraid that drag will again play a cruel joke on us.

They could run a skinny wing?
Think for Monza they’ll run a sheet of paper with a crease in it for the rear wing🤣

Or pray that they use the summer break for a nice upgrade package esp now that they have more room under the budget cap

Hopefully the parts they're trying on the filming day before France help with the straightline speed some.

There is only the one 'kick' at monza the rest is high speed so maybe a complete high speed setup could get results?

I know the cars have to go around the whole track every time ( ) but 'just good enough' through the slower section and balls out could be the way to go if they have not sorted drag by then. I do not recall wo did it, but it was successfully done before.

I'm pretty sure it was McLaren and Button in 2010 or 2011. Basically slow on the straights but make up huge time in the Lesmos and Parabolica, as well as under braking. Which is great, if your car is good on the brakes...

Yes, there is that drawback

Hopefully that will be sorted by then.

Am I right in thinking that by partnering with lots of sponsors like this they are getting discounted or free services from their sponsors in order to reduce as much spending as possible under the budget cap?
They may make slightly less profit, but at least they don't have to pay for shoes!
Sounds legit to me.
If this is true it would explain why McLaren has so many little sponsors - they are each helping cut expenses from the budget cap.

Wasn't the filming day meant to be with the MCL-35M and Colton Herta?

Can they trial parts for the new car in last years one?

Or am I confusing this filming day with some other promotional event?

The filming day is different than a track day with a previous generation car (which they can do as much as they want)

This is Colton today at Portimao:

Yup there was a year they used different setups for each car and both were equally as fast. 1 with a low downforce and the other higher downforce. I'm sure it has happened many times before and after and even on a higher scale e.g Red Bulls philosophy this year compared to others.

McLaren will be lucky if they find a low downforce package to work in Monza but stranger things have happened.

If they can find something to hang onto 7th and 8th position they will have done well. Hopefully Ricciardo shows up. And that goes for the rest of the season.
Finally, everyone knows that Red Bull is a joke and Max Verstappen is overrated.
