This is a good interview with newey. He talks a bit about alonso too.
Even if there may not be a 33rd win or third title, seeing them work together will be (almost) good enough for me. I can't wait to see Alonso giving Newey car feedback with his usual hand gestures :) Alonso's massive experience coupled with Newey's understanding could be something to watch...

...if it is officially announced, of course

It's sad Alonso isn't 33 years old.
Right here and now Aston won't fly, and probably next year either.

I really wonder how Aston can afford all these high profile signings (Cowell, Cardile, Newey) in terms of budget cap.

Wages of the three highest-earning staff members are exempt from the cost cap. And also driver salaries.

Top teams employ more than a thousand people, not including the engine department (for those teams that make PUs). Even if three top salaries are exempt from the cost cap. Naturally, they are unable to fit them all under the cap.

There are massive "loophooles" to avoid the cap, that Szafnauer at the time said that "Effectively, there is no Cap"

All the teams have 68–70 members working full time and all the other, the remaining 900+, are under other entities and "on paper" only working part time for the F1 team : E.g. 10% for F1 90% other projects, which means only 10% of salary counts towards the budget cap.

This is only one example, Mercedes has 46 people working on the cap and obviously they have multiple of way to avoid the cap.

It looks like for 2026 FIA will add new rules.

Cowell sighed as a CEO. So I think he is getting paid along the lines that Whitmarsh was. Remember, he was a PU guru, CEO is finance stuff.

The same can be said for Cardile, he's probably getting a raise from his TD pay but he's probably getting paid in line with CTO pay.

Whatever team Newey goes to, I think they will make a big leap in 2025. Just a little feedback is enough to fix the car

Maybe a part of the salary are company shares. The idea has been floating around recently

I think there was or will be a change in regulations. From 2026 onwards part-time engineers won't count with part-salary. If an engineer only works for an hour on the F1-project, his full salary counts for the budget cap

If true, I'd say that will not be applicable for a long time. FIA and other teams will intervene.

The thing is we have no idea what these guys are being paid. We don't know if they're getting paid scale above or below scale. We are making presumptions that Stroll had to bribe them to come. You're just making presumptions on top of presumptions.

If you're hiring someone in to a different job and you think they can do that job, then a raise isn't that expensive. If we take Fallows for example, he wasn't gonna be the TD at RBR, so it's fairly easy to get him to come for low TD $$$, as he is a new TD. it will be higher than he was being paid at RBR but lower that what Pierre Waché is getting paid. Now if you were gonna go out and get Pierre Waché, you have to pay him more than RBR is currently paying him unless you move him into another job. This is what they did with Cardile, they moved the Ferrari TD into a CTO job, which likely has a higher scale.

So i have no idea where you guys come off thinking that this is costing them $$$$$... Newey, is gonna get paid off the books. Of course 2 other of the above mentioned could be off the books too or unmentioned others.
