Mclaren MCL40

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Remember when all the journalists said that the Ferrari exhaust trick is almost impossible to copy in season? Heh, right
If i would get the money to start my own F1 team, i would revive Arrows

oh please? Ferrari had this planned from the beginning when they made the car concept. The others are just simple add onns/solutions because they cannot do what ferrari did because they angled the drivetrain
But offcourse they gain some performance or they wouldnt do

That's nowhere near what Ferrari is able to do there, so yeah, everyone is right. Nobody can copy Ferrari's solution to their extent for this season.

In general, I couldn't see many big changes on this car, so a bit underwhelming considering how much it was oversold as a completely new car. It certainly did the job (so far) though, so whatever they did to it, it's working. I think I noticed that their floor leading edge is similar to Ferrari's now as well, but other than that, the sidepod shape differences and everything else listed on the upgrade sheet is hard to tell apart from the previous spec.

Let's see what they bring for Canada.

In this picture you can see the updated "daggers" at the floor entry. They have adopted the grid-fin arrangement of Ferrari. Also I can't tell if the mouse-hole at the base of the diffuser actually exists, or if that's just a shadow line.

Mclaren have this bulges by the mounting points on the chassis. By the suspension I can understand it (big forces). But by the mounting for the barge board it is odd.
