Mercedes W13

Looking at the insane packaging of the W13 I'm wondering whether someone took the name silver arrow a little too literally.

Hope the picture or link uploads OK, I'm not too good at this.

At the moment it looks like we have three aero concepts. Mercedes/Williams vs Ferrari/Hass vs everbody else. I wonder if Mercedes is on the wrong foot this time.
Haas is not close to the Ferrari. Hass is like a regular side pod with some gills on top.

I wonder what it will offer us. I assume for tomorrow.

Could Mercedes pull another 2019 and show a pretty different and further developed car across testing?

People speculated that nobody would show their real car until the first race. Would it be a shock if Mercedes haven't shown their full hand yet?

With such dissimilar concepts, we are ALL wondering who got it wrong at this point...
But is anyone getting it wrong or just different?
That's a very good point.

We've saw last season how far Mercedes and Red Bull were in front of all the other teams with vastly different design approaches (low rake vs high rake).

It appears that was not the silver bullet and I don't think these side pods are either, it's the overall package, and as usual and only the clock will tell.

True, i dont think there is a silver bullet like 2009... i guess all apporoach would work if every part is working in unison

The car should be fast on the straights! Good for this overtaking formula.

Hello !

What specifically gives you that impression ?

oh, is that so? I must have missed the story about that. That would be a good solution. I thought I saw the shrouds on Hamiltons wheel in Silverstone though. Maybe someone can check
I think it was just a quick-fix before the final solution. I remember seeing it too.

- Press and hold
- Information on the display is slightly different
- Can no longer be activated in race start mode

There’s one more revision to the system if I remember correctly but I can’t find the tweet.
so was the final solution implanted in the last days? when did this come out
For a while I believe. I think the tweet from the journo with the details has been deleted for some reason.

There were a few incidents in Sotchi, esp brushing the barrier on pit entry in quali which were to do with press & hold as I remember it.

I feel the same way looking at the car to be honest.

This car compared to the other big teams, as it stands, just has fewer drag creating pieces of bodywork.

The front of the sidepods are not very big. There's not much undercut to traverse.

The mid point of the aide pods have very smooth contours with no big direction changes.

Their available floor area is quite large and undisturbed, especially just after the undercut.

The rear of the sidepods is quite small.

All of which you'd assume would lead to a larger volume of, and less disturbed airflow to the rear of the car, for the aero elements there to use efficiently.

Basically, the car just doesn't have a draggy profile.
