McLaren MCL38

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

One have to admire the non-size gearbox, incredible the compactness

Updated Oscar chassis. Cooling louvres for colder weather conditions.

Not to this track, it's not on the official documentation.

And here’s what I saw at the beginning of practice 3: Oscar’s car had a rear wing installed for high downforce. The beam wing was also under high load. I guess this is a test before the Monaco Grand Prix.

He then pulled into the pits and was fitted with a different rear wing for medium downforce, the same specification as Lando's.

Yep, they did a little bit of running with a more loaded rear wing. Perhaps getting some early data for Monaco. But also, they havent had the chance to see how the upgraded car acts with a bigger rear wing.

It's not critical. We collected some data and it’s already good. Here in Imola such loading is not required.

This car finds pace without the gutters behind the halo. That may well be a future upgrade to increase efficiency.
Redbull chose that development path for its engine cover. It may be worth exploring for Mclaren to regain high speed performance that was lost to improve the low speed.
For Sure!!
