This forum contains threads to discuss teams themselves. Anything not technical about the cars, including restructuring, performances etc belongs here.
The team promised lando on the radio that Oscar would not undercut him if lando pitted last. The issue is that lando lost 3 sec in the pit and came out 1.5 behind. So he would be ahead with normal stop, so the undercut was not the reason he lost it.
But if he stopped first then mone of it happens. The team him to stop second, which opened up the risks.
What if Lando had stopped first and then there had been a safety car or red flag? You could play the what if game all day - that's the whole point - it's not supposed to be a controlled experiment.
That would have been very different though.
Lando only didn't stop because the team wanted Oscar to go first.

But the undercut is about 1-2 seconds. He comes out 1.5 behind so the undercut was possibly reason he lost it.
If he was came out 5 seconds behind, I would argue they shouldn't swap because undercut did not affect things. But with how close it was, undercut was the advantage.
its not even about the math. They got consent from the lead driver to make a concession to help the other driver behind keep his place. It's about maintaining some level of co-operation between competing drivers
And instead of seeing that they have such a good culture, that the drivers respect the team, that the team are fair and will make difficult calls with their drivers if they have to, there is a choice to bias towards over emotional and dramatic statements.
I fully expected Oscar not to give the position back. Props to him for giving it back and immediately. I didn't like how Norris kept the position long in Hungary.
Btw, good race from Norris and Oscar. Both fought well with straight line monsters of Ferrari and Red Bull. Some good overtakes at the start.

Piastri isnt going to do that, don't think its his, nor Landos nature.
RB19 vibes from RB21, and 2023 vibes from the Redbull team (driver, pitcrew, engineers).
Once they realized that they simply don't have the pace to catch Max on the M, McLaren should have tried a mixed strategy by letting one car run long and wait for an SC/VSC to put on the S, and one car to go early onto the H and pressure Redbull into stopping Max. That is if they wanted to desperately win this race.
Instead, they waited with both cars for Max's tyres to fall away, which it never did within a meaningful window of laps remaining. Once the blistering started affecting pace, Redbull were decisive and made the call for H, instead of continuing the 'who blinks first' waiting game. Mclaren philosophy is : 'we shouldn't disadvantage one driver and hand over the advantage to the other driver, with any strategy calls, even unintentionally, because we have both WCC & WDC in the bag, and dont care about who finishes ahead of us, since both cars will be on the podium on every track anyway'. I see nothing wrong with that, it's prudent and keeps ugly dynamics within the team, away (that's you, Mercedes 2016). I don't know what the hue and cry about 'giving the place back' is all about - it's something within the team and if they are fine with it, what business is it of 'the generic F1 spectator' to complain about ?

I think in Monza the alternate strategy is much harder, i don't think Verstappen would've responded.
Still, in Hungary they split which ended up favoring the guy who was running behind.
I look more in the future and with this wing maybe Baku and for sure Las Vegas will be pretty much the same. I think they should at least try a small wing. But I do understand that this is not MCL39 teritory.
Oscar on the radio "I've calmed down now. Yeah fair enough that's actually fair to do that".
Both drivers are really decent people, who know that they are where they are due to the team.
Unfortunately forums and social media is full of frothing lunatics.
Yeah I’ve been on Reddit it’s not pretty how much they actually like to crave a bad guy and want to paint Norris as one. They got giddy at him getting boos which is kinda nuts when actually - both drivers like each other and Norris didn’t do anything wrong to deserve them.

There's an article posted, in which Stella says the less wing the more car loses its aero efficiency. Its just the way the car is designed. It was still faster than all bar Max, in a car pretty much suited to this track.
