"The direct comparison between Piastri and Verstappen was particularly interesting. Both drivers first set their personal best laps in the second free practice, before tagging on a long run without refuelling in the same stint. Piastri opened the long run with a 1m34.771s, while Verstappen was about three tenths slower (1m35.082s).

Over the course of the stint, however, the Dutchman proved to be faster: averaged across all long-run laps, the Red Bull driver was 0.134s per lap quicker than Piastri. How meaningful this comparison really is remains questionable, given the unknown fuel levels and distorted practice programmes."

Do we believe this guy?
Not one bit. He's a certified fraud. That said the general sentiment seems to be car is thereabouts. And also I still don't think Piastri just magically became that much better than Lando around this track. So there's a lot more to wait and watch.
Agreed... Here's verstappens thoughts

Verstappen:
"FP1 started quite nicely, we were just getting up to speed with things, but the car was not bad,” he told the official Formula 1 channel. “A bit like the last two weekends where there were no major problems.

“Then in FP2 a few things that we tried, some were good, so we just need to try and optimise that a bit more. But overall, in general I’m quite satisfied, but definitely we need a bit more pace to fight up at the front tomorrow.”

“There’s still a few things that we want to do better, but it’s not like we need to throw around the set-up completely,” he said. “So that’s a good thing.

“We’ll see tomorrow. Is it going to be good enough to fight up front? I don’t know. I always find FP2 is a bit difficult to say with people running [different] engine modes top speed-wise. I guess we’ll see in qualifying."
Marko I put no faith in his words. The last 18 months he had been talking up upgrades etc and not shown much and made things worse. Max I put a little more in as I think he can be a little more honest but still I'd wait and see. They've been hit and miss and more miss with updates the last few years. The last month does seem to have been the most positive in all that time so I think there are good signs but we will see.

If max is happy with the car, and comparing it to the last 2 weekends, then you know that the car is in a good place.

Max’s interviews and thoughts on the car and the balance are always telling to how the weekend will go
Mess with the Bull - you get the horns.

Indeed this is why i really like Max, I love his honesty. If its bad its bad, and the other way around. There are many other drivers who would rather just hide the truth...

Piastri couldn't beat Max time on a second fresh soft. Believe.

He has one set less now, so he must have used two this session

Marko added that Norris may be behind due to the pit lane crash, to be fair. Usually he is the quicker McLaren on Fridays, especially on this kind of track.

The general sound of it was more that Marko was happy about finally having a good day in Singapore.
Tbf the Red Bull performance in Singapore had been pretty good barring 2023 quali setup issues. 2022 was Red Bull ruining two dominant pole runs of Max and 2024 we got P2.

But yeah maybe he was surprisingly normal this time.
Call a spade, a spade.

I think there is an issue with his tyres registering, it looked like he used an extra set in FP2 at one point too.

I doubt he used 2 sets, both this runs add up to 10 laps as a 3 & 7. Lando used one set continuously for 10 laps.
Just a fan's point of view

Decent times but hard to read much into it. Feels like McLaren are sandbagging with fuel given what they could do last year. The tyres never looked right, always too cold at the start and going off a bit towards the end. Should get better when the track cools.

McLaren sandbagging in FP3 would be very unusual. It's normally by far their best session of the weekend.

Anyway this session is very far from being representative, so no much point to read into it.
