Some good points, but Autogyro also makes good points about the bling of the vroom vroom brigade. I call it engineering prostitution, worshipping false idols.

You both have good points, I hope you can find a way co-exist without a fight.

Anyway, what I really wanted to say is that I'm not quite sure why colonies and slavery are relevant to this forum. Also Italy had its own turn at being "imperialistic bastards" too. You see that's the problem with nationalism (and anti-nationalism), it's as blinkered as fanboyism. Neither have a place on this forum.

your position interests me, but would benefit from more explanation

You already got it, catalytic converters are not about CO2 and are related to other much more relevant pollutants which actually matter in the real world and in the cities. That's why they are on 95% of the cars, whereas CO2 regulation after the scandal is nearly dead outside Europe
I've been censored by a moderation team that rather see people dying and being shot at terrorist attacks than allowing people to speak the truth. That's racist apparently.

formal recognition of CO2 emission is only the same as formal recognition of fuel consumption - they are basically the same thing
(the USA has had the CAFE law for nearly 40 years)
presumably most countries have some formal recognition of fuel consumption (at least importing such data with the car)

the 3-way catalyst has of course substantially increased CO2 emissions and fuel consumption (because the mixture cannot be lean)

BTW what CO2 scandal ?

By the way I've started a new thread to debate the meaninglessness of supercars and bling.

   Supercars - What's the point? (aka The nature of beauty)

As for global warming - Start a new thread if you want to debate that. Be prepared for it to be closed when it becomes political/ideological bickering.

Now lets get back to the vroom vroom .....

Awesome to see supercar manufacturers really getting aero to the 'working man'
The front end is maybe 6........ inches too long :|
Something past the front wheels just doesnt look balanced with the rest.

but apart from that it is really ridiculously good looking!

The active aerodynamics package on the underbody of the car plays an essential role as it completely changes the configuration below the car as the active rear spoiler is deployed:

• The flaps on the rear diffuser rise to increase air expansion and thus extraction capacity

• The flaps on the front diffuser rise to increase expansion and generate the downforce required to balance that at the rear

• The guide vane on the front underbody, which at high speeds channels excess air away from the front radiator to reduce drag, closes to maximise efficiency.
It could be interesting to try and read something into the cfd image showing the floor. The nice thing is that it seems a cfd image produced with ansys fluent internal post processor. Judging from tha pattern and the values in the scale on the left, what could be represented is the pressure coefficient. Otherwise it could be some other scalar with limited chosen to create a coloured imagewithout giving away too much information.
Basing on the assumption (which may be wrong) that what is shown is indeed the pressure coefficient, one could try to look a bit into it.
First thoughts the color scale is very narrow, so the image is saturated and the detail of the high and low pressure zones are lost - this could be due to ferrari not wanting to give away details and wanting to show an image with a lot of variations in colour.
Second thought - this should be the low downforce configuration, as the outer channels of the diffuser seem not to be working (see the much paler shade of blue compared to the central part)

As Ferrari, Mc Laren should go to Le Mans too !

Pagani and Koenigsegg are too small for modern racing, but they are the truly genuine supercars makers...

Ferrari and Mc Laren with their F-1 pedigree just sell well overpriced GT+ that looks like supercars. That's the actual definition of Hype(r)-cars !

Lamborghini is within the VW-Porsche group. That group is very active in endurance racing. No space yet for Bentley, Bugatti or Lamborghini in LMP and no interest for F-1.

So, lemme get this straight: Ferrari and McLaren's mistake is selling extremely high-performance road cars that customers want to buy at any price?

Good for them. But with that money go to Le Mans and wins overall with extremely competitive LMP against Audi, Porsche and Toyota.

It a pity to see Ferrari and Mc Laren struggling for many years against a can maker in F-1.

Now the only passion in Maranello is the passione per il denaro (=passion for money).

RIP Bruce Mc Laren and Commendatore Enzo Ferrari.

Yeah, an LMP1 Ferrari competing against hybrid diesels. Hope you were kidding. If not, tell me the need for them to compete in LMP1, I really cannot understand. They already have a team in the WEC, AFCorse, last year at 24hrs du Mans they won the GTE-Pro cat on a 458 GT2, driven by Giancarlo Fisichella and Gimmy Bruni.

Oh, the romantic comment...
Enzo started building road cars just to have money to build F1 cars. It was a sort of game to him. And in fact, when FIAT came in, he had no interests in controlling the road division. He wanted the F1 and the money to keep runnning it, and so it was.
So money has ALWAYS been relevant in Maranello, and always will be.
Even McLaren is now realizing that this could be a good way for them to survive the future, while having a massive free brand promotion ---> more sponsors, more budget, etc.

You can win every single races in GTE WEC, it's pointless. This is true for Aston Martin, Chevrolet, Dodge, Porsche, and especially for Ferrari or Mc Laren. If the "top teams" of F-1 are just worth the serie B of WEC... They better do only F-1 !

By the way, Enzo Ferrari was more interested in sportscars than in F-1. Luca Di Montezemolo told Enzo Ferrari in January 1974 that the developpement of the 312 PB for 1974 was proceeding as planned. But, in reality, the sportscars program was already stopped by FIAT under the recommandation of... the same Luca Di Montezemolo. That why he was fired by Enzo Ferrari at the end of 1975 despite Niki Lauda WC title.
