i'm sorry that it's taken so long, but i've been so busy doing other things that i haven't had time to continue with the model that often. Still, it's taking shape very nicely

the front end of the monocoque PVA glued and strengthened with masking tape. a layer of PVA glue will be added once it is attached to the car.


first rough coat of red on the headrests and sidepod ribcage area. the cockpit needs doing in black before i add the front of the monocoque.

nice progress! was just wondering if your nosecone extends a bit too much further back and if you'll have enough space to attach the suspension

yes, i think (and hope) that i have enough room for the suspension.

i think the nose cone is a bit too wide for its height.

i'm sorry to announce that for the time being, work on the F138 has halted due to exams. i will continue with the F138 once my exams are over, as the next thing i am working on is the suspension which requires a lot of time and effort. i will post some pictures as soon as work restarts.

i am also working on 2 other projects at the same time as the F138, one of an F1 car designed by me in google sketchup, and another of an f1 track, also designed by me in google sketchup, therefore, after my exams, there will be a full throttle attempt to finish the F138 and continue with my other projects which i will also launch topics of on F1 technical in the near future.

hello again, after a long break, i am back, after exams, working on my F138 model again...

here are some more pictures of progress of the painting (rough coat) and the suspension and first tyre

And here are my thoughts. First look- nice!
Now some words on the suspension. I see you've abandoned the skewer sticks, and the way you've chosen is definitely easier. I notice though that the wishbones are attached (from their inner side) to a rectangle, which you've painted black. Since there's no such thing in reality, you'll have to cover it. I also wonder how you'll attach the top wishbone of the rear suspension, because the gearbox housing is lower than the nosecone, probably you'll have to add an additional piece like this one:

Another question- how are you planing to smoothen the painted surfaces?

first of all, thanks for the positive response

the inner rectangle is so that i have a bigger contact area where the suspension meets the monocoque, so it will be stronger and the car will be able to stand on its wheels properly. the rectangle won't be visible once the final paint overcoat is applied. it will look like the proper suspension attached to the body work.

the way i attach the rear suspension will be different to the front one. as everything will be painted black there, there is no need for a rectangle etc. (one of the other reasons i made the rectangle was so it is easier to paint in between the suspension wishbones). so it will look something like this (hopefully)



in other words, the wishbones will slope slightly downwards to meet the height of the gearbox casing.

to smoothen the painted surfaces (note that this coat of paint is only a test coat, or rough coat) i will use masking tape with a layer of PVA glue. then another coat of paint should do the trick. i will then apply the sponsors and then cover the whole thing in clear varnish.

i know it all looks a bit rough at the moment, but it will be patched up, and flattened and repainted.

Nice- you've got pretty close to the shape of the suspension.
a couple of questions:
1) i think there is no pullrod?


here you can see the wishbones and the pullrod clearly


2) how are you planning to attach the beam wing? picture above has nice detail on that as well
3) will the tires fit on the hubs well? (i mean, i was also considering building detachable tires on my new project, but in the end i decided against it because i was concerned that they wouldn't fit well)

i'm only joking,

the pullrods are going to go in next, along with the rear break ducts, and then i'll move onto the wheels...

the beam wing is already made, and is attached to the rear wing. that will be a simple fix onto the gearbox/drive train area.

and about the wheels... i'm hoping they will fit. i'm not too sure yet, but if they don't it shouldn't be too much of a problem making them fit.

i decided to do the barcelona updated barge boards because it was a lot easier than the normal ones... and more structurally intact

rear wing with half length pillars. (still needs painting)


sample card dried with varnish on top. results are not satisfactory. i'm not going to use varnish, it shows up on white paint, and makes it look yellow. it also deforms any logos or paper/ink that you put over it. that black square is a carbon fibre print from google, which you can't see any of now that the varnish has dried. so i will have to find another shining agent


rear suspension freshly painted black (might be hard to see where the pull rod and break ducts are)




a view of the side of the front suspension. this area needs to be carefully painted in red, with a really small brush. i'm going to do that as soon as i have posted this...
