Wheel nut is not big for car but for other driver it's very bad. I hope it is only one time error. Remember massa with Brawn gp's spring.

It looks like as soon as the car was fully loaded up it failed, rather than just something like a wheel nut that was not put on correctly.
I have the same feeling. :?

I fear no more running today for McLaren. It looks like as soon as the car was fully loaded up it failed, rather than just something like a wheel nut that was not put on correctly.

Hope I'm wrong of course.
He had already put in 6 laps and is still sat second fastest.

I have never heard of wheelnuts coming loose due engine vibrations! At worst the wheelnut has design flaws which makes it can't withstand the forces being applied on it, at best it is just a bad batch.

Update from McLaren
Don't expect to see Fernando Alonso back out on track for a little while - McLaren are expecting at least a delay of a couple of hours as parts of the car were damaged in the gravel (in addition you'd presume to the wheel)

And confirmation from the team that the wheel problem caused the spin.

That's what I feared. Floor and diffuser will definitely be damaged.

If the wheel nut has a design flaw, they can quickly rework the design and create new ones overnight and fly them in with a helicopter. However, in that case they are screwed for today. Maybe they can do some straightline tests.

It was obvious joke (honda vibration issues last year  )

True but it could also be a one off.
Only 1 way to find out.

I am a moderator so I have to ask you... what is a joke? .

If it was a joke, then fair enough.

Gonna say definitely more. Floor and diffuser will need to be patched and they will have to investigate the broken wheel nut and possible the other wheelnuts as well. Don't expect them to be out again before the afternoon.
