thats what the understanding has been, but then somebody reported that alonso was waiting on another upgrade from honda before he made up his mind the other day. i dont know if its supposed to be hardware or just a software change. seems like theyll be bringing software to every session though. (hopefully) so i thought it sounded like hardware.

could be BS too though.

if the cost cap is whats keeping them from bringing big updates, they should just blow through the cap and then threaten to quit if they thnk theyre gonna get penalized heavily. i know they wont do that though. if they are stuck at the back for the foreseeable future, what do they have to lose
What have you thought of Ferrari's upgrades? It's early to evaluate the 2nd one but the first one wasn't earth shattering. The 2nd one they enlarged the turbo cause it was undersized, not sure what else they did.
Turbo size can't be changed with aduo. Nobody is entirely sure what they did, but the most common rumours were changing vane shape and the number of them.

From the Haas and Ferrari drivers, it seems the engine upgrade wasn't good enough overall. They only gained about 5hp enough for better reecharging only

yea seems fairly underwhelming. either that or mercedes started the year with their PU turned down to 50% haha
i laugh after that, but it feels like mercedes learned their lesson in their last dominant period, and decided not to show their full strength all at once. the writing was on the wall since last season that nobody wanted to watch years of one team winning everything on their engine alone. now theyre getting aduo when everyone knows they have the best engine. i dont think it matters what engine upgrades anyone brings right now, mercedes will just turn it up a little more. im surprised nobody has raised more issues about how aduo is judged yet, but im sure thats coming.

Edit:

Actually it seems to enough just to visit https://f1tcdn.net/ and "accept the risk" when prompted, which I did before muching around with stylish. Thereafter to browser loads the css scripts just fine. I have no idea why it's on a different domain than the forum itself.
thanks. im still not getting into the site. not sure if im missing something or what. im being routed to "Plesk" and tried logging in with my login here, and its not allowing me in. not sure if im in the right spot or not. hopefully theyll get it fixed before long.

whats wild to me is that it doesnt seem like anyone is having the driveability issues that aston are. admittedly i havent payed as much attention to the other teams issues, but its been an issue with us since day one, and still continues to be. i dont get it

Think it was cause they could not get it done during preseason testing, for obvious reasons. Those reasons continued into the start of the season. With regards to the new ICE, my guess would be that it's a fairly radical change in combustion and that takes time to adjust to.

"TURBOCHARGER -

Turbine Wheels, Shaft,
Bearings, Centre,
Compressor and Turbine
Housings, Inlet VG Device,
compressor inlet"
can be changed under ADUO, which Ferrari just did on their ADUO2 engine.

For me, the only way Honda could be decent next year is if they made a huge mistake in 2026—where they CLEARLY know what the issue is but can only fix it for 2027, and they know the solution but simply can't implement it this year. If that’s not the case, next year will be another shame

Orihara already stated the Spec 2 update was limited by the current design. They did a minor redesign on the pistons to improve combustion.

At the latest press conference, Orihara stated the 2027 engine would not close the gap completely, but it would be a big step. I am putting my faith in this being true.

For me the word "mistake" is the wrong word. Example I was playing a song on the piano and hit the wrong key by mistake. Suggest you know the right keys. Honda's struggles are more akin to writing a song on a piano and they are trying to find which keys sound better together. They don't know yet and are trying to learn the best way forward. The major change in fuel and combustion has put everyone on the same new unknown track. For many well published and argued reasons, Honda are a little further back than others. It doesn't mean that there is only 1 way forward and that Honda will not find a better way. They may, after all, write a better song.

You make it sound like Honda has already found the way to improved combustion. When I read that article, the impression I got was that was the plan, it's where they hope to be.

Yes, these comments contain a degree of hope. But it's not just hope. How so?
They will constantly experiment with new versions to create the design and environment that works best with the characteristics of this fuel. They will analyze each new version, think about how to correct its shortcomings, and create new designs according to findings. And each time, they will build upon it, making the design work best with this fuel. So it's not hope. Each of these trials will give them something, and in the end, they will find out what works and what doesn't. This is a time-consuming process, but it's inevitable.
Hope, on the other hand, is more like what I did in one of my previous comments. That is, they noticed that in a previous engine formula, the ignition was very good at a certain RPM range, and the torque and power increased significantly. If they encounter something similar early on, they can with it and come with a very competitive engine. Or it will take them a long time to find the best iteration.
