The upgrades did not work well if Massa is in 17th. Assuming Massa's qualifying session was normal, this is too big a spread between teammates.

Brian
Don't be dense Brian. It's clear Massa underperformed as he has all year. Admitted by himself. So his driving isn't a reflection of the updates. Plus this isn't the place for team talk.

@zyphro yeah I'm sure you were saying Quali is meaningless when Mercedes was on the pole right? Fact is people like you always come into a Ferrari thread when two things happen: 1) they do poorly 2) they do well and you come and try to diminish the result. Just like your whole Fernando will be in P10 on first lap. This isn't AutoSport forums. Go do your usual trolling over there.

It´s only a second between them. Just like it´s been most of the year.

Edit: Massa said he lost several tenths by being held up.

What is the Fernando factor that enables him to just extract those two three tenths from the car?
He does sorta outperform the car. Even he said it.

He´s in his prime right now, and he just is that good. In everything as well.
Easily the most complete driver on the grid.

He can go fast in anything, good cars, dogs, bad weather, good weather you name it.

Precisely. I remember a quote said by Pat Symmonds once, "The best thing about Fernando is that he can drive around the problems of the car. He would often neglect set-up of the car by saying I can drive it anyway." Apologies for endorsing Alonso on the team thread, but can't resist because he is just that good.

Sorry but, out-performed who? Quali is meaningless: RB and Merc hardly chose to run.

Let the race do the talking.
I dont care how you look at it. The past races have seen them in 5,6 or further back...and even chosing to not run. Jenson and webber didnt even make it out of Q2. Michael, Kobayashi and Vettel didnt turn a lap in Q3 (because it wasnt worth it. Not because they have a better option). I'd say Ferrari earned that 3rd place. Now you should also go post in the Williams thread about how Maldonado's 2nd is due to other just not running as well.

Ferrari's upgrades work and they work well. period.
lol... they did not make it out of Q2 because of how tight it is. People need to open up their eyes: quali is nothing.

Are you trying to tell me Webber wouldn't have got into Q3 on merit? If so, you're crazy.

Race will tell how far Ferrari has come; if they stay in top 3 good for them but I doubt it.

When Mercedes was on pole? I was happy for them sure, but I didn't say they had a "competitive" car per se. Their competitiveness for that weekend was shown in the race, not the quali.

Oh dear!!! Mate go look for my post when I congratulated Alonso's win. Quit being moronic and be realistic.

He's in his prime whilst Massa is in decline.

This track (along with Singapore) is his best track. Last few years he's always put in stunning Q3 laps in Barcelona.
