Fine if you only look at the trailing edge, but a diffuser is more than just a trailing edge.jz11 wrote: ↑12 Aug 2018, 22:37if anything, then the shape of the new trailing edge would suggest reduction of the surface area immediately before it, not increase, that slight bow loses out to the straightened sharper bends it previously had in terms of the length of the edge, so it is probably more about the shape of the flow, not the surface area
You're right; there's more surface area in the central section. And it seems the trade off with the trailing edge is minuscule. They added tiny vortex generating fins underneath too.godlameroso wrote: ↑12 Aug 2018, 13:28https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DgSPneJX0AAOJmm.jpg:largeM840TR wrote: ↑12 Aug 2018, 07:52How does it increase surface area and reduce turbulence?godlameroso wrote: ↑12 Aug 2018, 05:56Increase in surface area, potentially less turbulence under the car.
Notice the changes. The area near the central section is slightly curved. It adds a small amout of surface area. It also smoothes the air flow along the central section.
The double diffuser rule forbids holes in the floor. Gurney tabs are perfectly allowed and have been around for I think a decade or so.
I absolutely love this overly complex cooling air inlet. Because thats what the whole thing is meant to do. Now it also adds an improved rearwing inflow. Science - --- yeah! If it works we may see some new rearwing designs in the second half.F1NAC wrote: ↑22 Aug 2018, 18:03Ferrari style mirrors, but it seems they just added additional housing around mirror that simulates Ferrari's set up.

I think he's talking about the radiator inlet in that photo, its shape, how it interacts with the mirror pylons. Then making a separate point about how the mirror will interact with the rear wing.
