I wonder if the tires will last or if they have to convert it to a two stop.

Edit: Alonso is catching Albon, might have a chance of 9th with two stops.

And he did pass Albon.
He lost so much time ,should be close to Hulkemberg, but more than 10 sec. Is a lot...
Needed to two-stop because the tyres were degrading too quickly, but the terrible pit stops cost Alonso 3 seconds on track.

Thank goodness the drivers never have to step foot in the AMR24 ever again.

Alonso got everything out of this crappy car as usual. Onto 2025 with Newey and new Car/WT/simulator working in harmony.

Yeah, noone want to see AMR24 again, but, AMR25 needs to be better, and will be?

Alonso said in the post qualifying interview that they changed the setup after FP3 and suddenly the car came alive. I think the new simulator is at least encouraging.
He also said that they made a change after FP2 for FP3 and did not work. I really hope it is thanks to the new simulator but the first statement give some doubts
Has there been any videos of the new simulator or WT? Would love to see them in action. Anyway hope for a good result after Alonso pulled it out the bag.
De la Rosa said that the new sim is online, without mentioning how advanced it already is. He just added that the fruits of this new tools and humans (Newey and Cardile) will be seen in some months.

Some random twitter guys started the talk afterwards, when AMR had a good session and Krack mentioned that they ran the sim overnight (standard phrase) that this is thanks to the new sim. Without any evidence.

The car for next year must be done already, I don't think Newey will have any influence, maybe some tweaks after summer if anything.

The AMR25 will more than likely be worse than the AMR24, but with all certainty, the AMR24 was a heavily flawed car and no longer needs to be raced. Think of it as one bad car down, one more to go until 2026!

Yeah, if Aston start next year being the 7th team i will be surprise. I dont beleive they will fight for points next year, unfortunetelly, i think will be another tough year again.

But is a car ever really done? These are always prototypes and at some point the 2025 car will bear the fruits of the new tools and personnel

Let’s say that ends up being the case and Aston comes out with a car similar to or slowest like McLaren did a few years ago. I’d fully expect (like McLaren) for Aston to already have a b-spec car for Barcelona that takes on all the lessons and teachings Newey provides + new WT/simulator.

They’d then fully focus on 2026 after that with minor updates. If the car is genuinely quick out the gates then all bets are off. Both scenarios still mean it won’t be worse than 2024 at least.

Also people need to remember it’s not just a new wind tunnel. Aston also has access 24/7 which they didn’t previously having to share with Mercedes and getting only weekend use. All these little things add up.

They also had a state-of-the-art facility for 18 months now and were outdeveloped by the likes of RB, Haas, Alpine, and Sauber. It's competent personnel that takes advantage of these resources.

There is no evidence if the next car will be fast or slow, off-season development wasn’t that bad.
It’s the end off the regs circle, the top teams won’t find a lot of lap time.
Noone knows how much Newey is already involved in the background. He can advice AMR for sure how to avoid bottoming.
Their Melbourne car will be fully developed in the Mercedes‘ tunnel until Christmas, but everything after that will benefit from the new tunnel. Maybe their Imola update once works…

List of people whose statements I take with a pinch of salt till they are actually proven empirically:

Tom McCollough

Pedro De la Rosa

Mike Krack (he doesnt make too many claims though)

Anyone who has worked on AMR23 and 24.

This was thier problem:

		                                     2023 2024 Diff
Pierre Gasly	Alpine Renault 1:24.548	1:22.984	00:01.56
Nico Hulkenberg	Haas Ferrari 1:24.108	1:22.886	00:01.22
Lando Norris	McLaren Mercedes 1:23.816	1:22.595	00:01.22
Oscar Piastri	McLaren Mercedes 1:23.782	1:22.804	00:00.98
Sergio Perez	Red Bull Racing Honda RBPT	1:24.171	1:23.264	00:00.91
Fernando Alonso	Aston Martin Aramco Mercedes	1:24.084	1:23.196	00:00.89
Carlos Sainz	Ferrari 1:23.584	1:22.824	00:00.76
George Russell	Mercedes 1:23.788	1:23.132	00:00.66
Yuki Tsunoda	AlphaTauri Honda RBPT 1:23.968	1:23.419	00:00.55
Max Verstappen	Red Bull Racing Honda RBPT	1:23.445	1:22.945	00:00.50
Then there is their tire usage, which a good part of the problem is related to them being slow out of the corners.
