Mclaren do their own gearboxes, right?
Usually, yes, but this years was basically a chopped and modified version of last years to fit the Renault, not a clean sheet design, so I assume there's a few integration wrinkles in there.
Still, pace not too bad given the strategy they ran with. I'm surprised Alonso didn't try ultras at the end though.

Exactly what I was thinking about the Ultras, I thought that was a no brainer. Good pace by Stoffel as well, bad luck for him, but could it be too late in the day? Carlos Sainz name is being thrown all over the Mclaren garage.
Q: (Stefano Mancini – La Stampa) Kimi, will you help Vettel to win his championship this year?
Kimi Raikkonen: I can only drive one car, obviously.

Good result today bar the gearbox. Great strategy and stoffel drove fantastic. I wonder if the new car drives in a way that suits him more. For those saying he should be able to drive any style car, most cant, Button included. He wasnt too bad, even though he was often a similar distance behind Alonso as VD...

It's not really useful data as the time of day isn't there. After the mid point, everyone not in the top 5 - 6 just cruised it home. Too hard to pass.

They changed later. Should've tried ultras at the end though. Might've caught Magnussen.

Strategy was great, they jumped so many cars easily with it. Kudos! As for the start, they showed some replays and it was a pure mess at the back like 5+ cars together, Alo lost a lot of time from the start since he was in a position having nowhere to go (which seem to happen quite often this year), Stoffel tho was in a much cleaner position and managed to profit from this (which is great since he was normally suffering at starts).

(P.S Also that pass on Bottas' Merc was satisfying xDDD)

Nice strategy and crucial points. Shame for the waste of Vandoorne’s solid drive.

Ricardo's fastest lap was 1:20.012, lap 46 on 2 lap old Ultras
Alonso's fastest lap was 1:22.090, lap 68 on 30 lap old Mediums

for whatever that's worth. Fuel weight difference, tire difference, tire age difference......

Just trying to get a read on how the parts worked...

They were going fast enough on slower tyres with more high deg periods to merit those places. But its also a track that should suit them, so we will have to wait and see.. it would be hard to tell from this track if their problems are lessened.

New wing may end up costing other teams vast sums to investigate, as it seems to work well.

Great job, McLaren!
