Good result but like mentioned dissapointing gap to the front
What’s wrong with you people? How long have you been watching F1? Just look at the jump the made compared to last year, it’s an amazing job and they don’t even have Alonso and are getting outspend 5:3. Without any budget caps it will be nearly impossible to reach the podium on pure pace.

man there is nothing wrong just we are now looking to the front and not behind and we just noticed a big gap to the pole in this track we're hoping for more and more risk in the design if the next car to close by half the gap

Yeah, that was my feeling too after qually. As good as it is to see them nail best of the rest here, that's still some gap to the front. Sounds like the team are going big next year after playing it relatively safe the past 2 seasons, but it would be the correct call with such a solid and reliable base to work from in this years car.

Row 4 locked in on a track that exposes McLarens biggest weakness?

I’d say that’s a really good job in quali.

It will be a fight for points tomorrow but a very well executed session.

It is a big gap, but can't say I'm disappointing because it was an absolutely massive gap last year, and still a larger gap at the start of the year. There's only so much they can do with this years car. But as a platform to relaunch Mclaren in the championship and in terms of sponsorship attraction, the car has done it's job magnificently. More than we could have expected for this year I think, or even hoped for. I think if we go back to the pre-season testing, no-one was getting excited for the clear 4th fastest car.

Should be lot's of fun racing for the rest of they year but now the focus is on developing next years car and the drivers. Hope we sign Lando up for more years as soon as we can. I worry that he is a perfect fit alongside Verstappen.

The gap has been there all year and this track should have been even worse. Enjoy the great step and stay calm for some years, because wins or even podiums are miles away. Some fans in here are simply delusional with their expectations.

yes big gap its why we must take risks in the concept of the next car to close the gap cause we are very far right now from the front
Exactly, Seidl said as much. The guys with talent need to be bold and make a real fist of it. Finding 1.5secs will be extremely tough, but as long as there is a clear indication of the gap reducing, then they can be optimistic when the rules are reset for 2021.
Q: (Stefano Mancini – La Stampa) Kimi, will you help Vettel to win his championship this year?
Kimi Raikkonen: I can only drive one car, obviously.

for the podium just go back to last week a toro rosso was in it and for the futur maybe we can design a good car and be more near the front as a fan i believe we can do that

I think you're maybe getting the wrong gist of it. It's absolutely brilliant and exciting to see us be in this position, and it's been thoroughly enjoyable so far this year. Being best of the rest is half of the target, but the other is closing the gap to the front, which is what the team themselves are targeting most. Probably track specific, but today it was relatively larger than in recent races.

Knowing the clear weaknesses of the car and the track characteristics, if you had given me P7 and P8 this past Thursday, I would have happily taken it.

I'd say definately track specific, when you look how close they are to the Ferrari's and the Merc's.
Still, team have hit their targets for the summer break almost perfectly.

You are using STR’s podium as a measuring stick? That was very much a lucky podium and not one that came out of the pace of their car.

yes not on pure performance of course but in difficult conditions its possible even tomorow if we have a crasy race its possible to get a podium
