Sainz was nowhere in Imola. Charles destroys him in wet. Early in the race

At least the car has a good one-lap pace, and they say its easier to bring some race pace when the car is genuinely fast than doing the opposite. So, let´s remain positive and think that they can solve this problem.
I agree (like it's easier to make quick car reliable than vice versa).
But still, pace difference is incredible.
This started with thin gauge tires really, so I don't think it will be solved this year.
Maybe they can solve it with a magic test like Mercedes did in 2013.

Since Mercedes has a problem with warming up these tires, maybe Pirelli will bring thicker thread tires and solve both problems at once 8)

Long runs have looked good in FP1 and FP2. Might've been best of the midfield. Let's see if it stays that way on Sunday.

They were horrendous in S1, even slower than Haas in FP2, they may be tempted to take downforce off to qualify better which will hurt them in the race

This car works well with full downforce mode. As soon as they start to take the wings down, it becomes horrendous. It might also be that the competition can run higher wing levels and still be as quick in the straights.
The engine looks like its still the weakest this year.

Just read a report from Duchessa saying they were running the old engines in practice. I think they'll be OK tomorrow.

Ferrari did not manage to make a complete clean lap and in addition it started its rotation work with PUs and therefore today it works with an 'old' engine with very low speeds and last time in the first sector, that of the engine. On the race pace, however, it appears very promising, with little degradation and very fast times even at the end of the session.
Here are the long runs.

Yes and I hope they've learned. They should keep the downforce on even if it means qualifying lower because the race pace is a lot more important

The race sims look great, hope they can carry those forward though Gasly is the one to look out for, as well as the 2 McLarens as always

Not the best quali session. I think they definitely loaded the car up for the race. Both cars should finish in the points the race pace is as good as what was displayed on Friday.

Let's hope it rains.

For their sake, I hope it does not rain. Because on that way they won't know if the setup tweaks worked or not.

This Ferrari, for the first time in a long time, seems to have awesome mechanical grip - shown by their strong pace in Imola in the wet, and in Monaco/Baku. For years (basically since 2009 onwards), if I hear the word rain I knew Ferrari was going to suffer horrendously. They seem to have solved that finally!

I hope it rains a) so we get a good race, and b) to put this theory to the test once and for all.
