McLaren were looking better than Ferrari in FP1. If lando hadn't locked up he would have been 3rd ahead of Max.
Did I miss something?

DR recorded a better S1 and much better S2 than Lando's best on his deleted lap. It would've been on the board as a 1:36.2 which is about a tenth ahead of Leclerc(Sainz would've also hit a 1:36.3 but had to lift at turn 19 during his fastest lap because of yellow flags).
Anyway, I think they'll all be within about a tenth tomorrow.

FP2 has been a good session for the team, long runs will be interesting to analyze, but knowing that McLaren usually take it easy from a PU perspective on Friday’s, there are reasons to be optimistic for the race.

I was peeking at the race pace and it seems to look competitive. Waiting for a more detailed analysis

During the long runs, McLaren was consistently behind Ferrari in Sectors 1 and 2, nevertheless gaining time in Sector 3, this could validate the thought that McLaren is running in a lower engine mode since timing in both Sectors are heavily affected by both straights, while Sector 3 usually shows how the chassis / balance contributes to the lap time… It would also seem that tire degradation was better for McLaren since they could hold their average lap times more steady than Ferrari.

I’m optimistic about the weekend, at least in our fight against Ferrari.

O was mostly looking at the timings on F1TV, but that’s admittedly not the best interface for it. Thank you for the insights

McLaren has been running pretty conservative engine modes in free practice all season long to be honest. Seems like they will be competitive here. We need a good race after two disappointing ones in a row.

Yea we are defo on for Lando’s pole lap to be deleted for track limits at turn 9 after his first run which was done on a worn set of softs so he’s starts P9👍🏻

I think all teams will go on mediums in Q2 here because the soft is not a very good race tire.

It was tongue and cheek😂
Regardless, do you think they’ll using mediums in Q3?

Bit late to the party but Zak really is doing wonders on the sponsor front.

He's doing an amazing job to tap into the American market. The Indy project is making the F1 team more appealing over there, helps towards bridging the budget gap to the top teams.

So Practise 3. What do you think. At the moment Sainz seems to have the upper hand by 1 tenth over Norris. Is the Mclaren still with turned down engine and how much can this give once they turn it up during Qualifying?

I think it could be close, but Ferrari have a clear edge. Lando is out of position, with Max and Lewis getting their times deleted. Leclerc will likely annoyingly smash it in Q3, so 7th and 8th? We could be higher with a bit of luck though.
Q: (Stefano Mancini – La Stampa) Kimi, will you help Vettel to win his championship this year?
Kimi Raikkonen: I can only drive one car, obviously.
