Mercedes AMG have today completed their shakedown of the W03, the team's new 2012 car. After the team decided to run at last week's Jerez test with the older car, Mercedes will present its new car to the public next Tuesday at the start of testing at Barcelona.
A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

The drawback could be difficulty in setting up the car.

I still don't see how parallax would not be an issue; considering that all the shots were taken at different angles.
Because you're comparing items on a plane. What would be an issue is perspective – you would have to make sure that that plane were actually parallel to the camera, but that's easily sorted using a perspective transform, and easily recognised when it's correct, as it results in the wheels being circular and the same size.
Allright I apolgize. But when I see the cars in the race-track the Mclaren does appear to be the longest, maybe due to the side-pods or something like that.

The tyres are a good indicator since they are all the same size, just not in this picture shown above. Enlarge this pic and u'll see the different size of them. Without enlarging you can see that the RBR shot is taken from quite a bit closer.
Losers focus on winners, winners focus on winning.
I thought that I had stumbled onto What Camera, or some such website.
There is a simple fact that some photographic geniuses seem to be missing. The cars are in different positions on the track. Look at the background tyres. This will of course, distort the photos.
And why is it important to prove that one car is longer than another?
Some seem to be claiming that the Red Bull is a shorter car, and then there are claims that Mercedes are suffering because they have a short car. Defeats all the excuses, doesn't it?
I understand according to a few online sources that the reasons Mercedes are delaying the W03 is because it wants maximum wind tunnel time(as many have already suggested) to maximise the front wing F-duct.
Apparently the design has been knocking around Brackley since their rear wing f-duct was developed.
Since then the design was shown in very basic form around Suzuka during the FP sessions so the team could verify data from their simulation models.
The complexity surrounding the concept forced their hand somewhat in that is was shown sooner than they wanted, but the kick back is that they have verified the data collected.
If it works as well as Mercedes anticipate, Mercedes could be podium contenders out the blocks. There is also alot written about the front ride height adjuster Renault pioneered. Again, a source suggests Mercedes will be sporting this development at the second test, in very developed from.

Uhhh? How does being at a different position on the track somehow change the wheelbase of the car?

On topic.

Great Post JET.. now we just have to sit tight, hope, and pray that all the hard work has paid off.
