Mercedes-AMG F1 W10 EQ Power+

The front wing flaps have clearly been repositioned for Melbourne. You can see where the carbon fiber surgery has taken place in these comparison shots.

It is clearly a convergence toward a flap profile more conducive to outwash.

They've done a bit of fiddling but it's very far from the Alfa/Ferrari solution that has been suggested by the professional commentators out there. It looks like they've opened the slot gap in the last couple of inches by making the fixed portion of the flap sit at a slightly lower angle.

This is nice example that the parts need some time to be produced. Lot of people see Mercedes like almighty gods, but here we can see that even them are not able to redraw and produce whole new FW in two weeks time...

I just want to be clear that I wasn't insinuating that this can be directly compared to the Alfa/Ferrari wings (and I don't think that you were trying to say that I was, either; I think your comment was directed at the "professional commentators").

However, it is apparent that this iteration of the front wing is a step in that direction with how/where the ends of the top flaps are meeting the end plate now. The flap profile has flattened out somewhat as a consequence. It's a step toward trying to maximize the outwash effect.

Correct. Not aimed at you at all.

They're definitely fiddling with it, that much is clear. It is a small change, however, at this stage. I have no doubt they'll continue to play with this area as they learn how it interacts with the rest of the car. I agree that the flap has been flattened slightly to give it a slightly flatter angle. The slot gaps has been opened too. Presumably to try to get some more air though to interact with the endplate vortex.

S'funny how Mercedes said, at the start of testing, that they'd played with this concept early on but couldn't get it to work. And now here they are playing with it again. I guess they're learning as they go.

I haven't noticed any difference myself (poor angles for comparison) other than evidence that some work has been carried out, but what that work is don't seem clear to me.

They've lower the top 2 slots close to the end plate by a few inches

This is nowhere close to that concept

It doesn't seem to be apparent in those two pictures, to me anyway.

I really can't see any difference in the Barcelona and Australia front wing profiles.

I can. And these additional photos helped.

To me, underneath Australia there is the Barcelona wing in the top picture and the new one on the picture below. So they have both wings on show I assume? To me in the new wing the whole of the top flap with Petronas written on appears thinner. Also the connectors between the flaps are black on old wing but silver in new one?
