Williams FW41 Mercedes

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

lol, people complained how the 2008 cars looked like a mess of wings and stuff,
this looks absolutely worse as a mess of wings, even if it's functional and well-engineered.

it's going to be only a matter of time before stuff like this gets banned (again).
Well the other perspective is how much a lot of people - certainly on this forum - harked back to how cool the 2008 cars were with aero detail etc.

In my opinion all these extra opportunities for visual design details are both interesting to the fans and go towards achieving the aim of cars that look cutting edge, futuristic and like ‘spaceships’.

The very vanilla, weedy 2009-2016 cards are not for me, but it’s a matter of opinion, I guess.

I like this area a lot. Kinda black magic. Visually interesting and mysterious.
Too bad a part of it will already capped next year.

Very bad news for Williams fans, Gary Anderson has declared car to be good.

Is it an optical illusion due to the livery, or does the nose narrow and then get wider again just before the front suspension?
Favourite driver: Lando Norris
Favourite team: McLaren

Turned down the chance to meet Vettel at Silverstone in 2007. He was a test driver at the time and I didn't think it was worth queuing!! 🤦🏻‍♂️

View from the top shows that the 'top' radiator intakes are not like the 2017 Ferrari's. On first look they look similar, though.

It's the same. Ferrari just used more bodywork around that area which made it look like a small opening.

Imagine the 2nd wing Ferrari did is not there.. Then it looks the same Williams (and Haas) have done now.

You're right - I looked over some old SF70H pics and refreshed my memory. There is definitely more bodywork around the Ferrari version.

The day you can tell how a chassis will perform from what it looks like is the day I'll stop posting. Mercedes chassis was declared light years ahead last year when unveiled, but the simple looking Redbull was by far the better chassis in the end.

I must have been the only person who didn't know the Ferrari aero guy jumped ship to Williams. This design was to be expected with his input and the input from the ex Mercedes chief. They stated some big changes to the packaging were made to take advantage of some Mercedes PU benefits. I'm guessing they'll run a similar intercooler. It does look like there is more space between the PU and driver seat, or maybe that's an illusion. Either way, I'm glad to see a design that looks to focus on more DF production than the previous Williams designs that were 'slippery'.
