The Formula One Teams' Association announced on Thursday night that it has decided to setup a breakaway championship and not go into Max Mosley's proposals to enter Formula One under the cost cap regulations.
Post here all non technical related topics about Formula One. This includes race results, discussions, testing analysis etc. TV coverage and other personal questions should be in Off topic chat.
Prodrive buys McLaren chassis for 2010, goes on developing that design, get the intellectual property over it for 2011 and has no right to buy any customer chassis from then on.
On one hand all teams will still be constructors, but on the other new teams don't have to start from scratch.

Wow wow wow I can't believe it! I hope they do the right thing and unleash these engineers (and more importantly $$$) on new regulations within a year or two and allow these people to start birthing automotive technology on the track and bringing it to market on the road. The marketing opportunities for the manufacturers are going to be endless...
I really hope Honda jumps back on board, and I would love to see Audi (maybe under the Lambo guise?), Jaguar, Nissan... Hyundai/Kia... who knows what other makes will want a piece of the pie when its Automaker versus Automaker playing by their own rules.
Also, I'm intrigued to find out what Peter Windsor's thoughts are going to be tomorrow morning. Does USGP immediately jump ship?
I'm sure there will be an american race in this series, if not two, the manufacturers crave the audience, especially with our carmakers all in the dump right now. This new series could be just the injection needed to bring a solid american fan base to the sport.
Windsor jumping ship wouldn't surprise me at all. After all, it's not like he was allowed to call his team "USF1" or anything.
One or two teams from the Porsche/VW/Audi/Lamborghini camp would also make sense. If the TV revenues are distributed more fairly than the current "Bernie gets half" scenario, and innovation is encouraged (I have yet to see real evidence that FOTA will encourage innovation, but this subject has me in an optimistic mood), there's a much better business case for manufacturer involvement. Max's rules eliminate any reason for manufacturer involvement.
"Buy a BMW because we run a Cosworth engine in our race car."
Max is clearly a little "touched", but now I think he's just playing with us. He surely can't be serious.
Is there a place where we can vote in favor of this or something? Maybe a letter to our national FIA representative?
Maybe I can prepurchase tickets to the Mosport race.
You could do all of us a favour by xplaining that there is no "USGP", never was, just a very shrewed American marketing thing?
But let me I tell'ya, hand on heart, that I would luuv to see a good ol', tobacco spitting, boy's team in F1. Though they might be surprised they don't refill with a cannister in F1.
"I spent most of my money on wine and women...I wasted the rest"
And now they can broadcast the races in HD, like the rest of the planet does for most sporting events, and since F1 already said they will not have HD next year, another + for FOTA.
But what will they call the series you think? They can't just call it FOTA.
They should cal it "Formula We Won"
Before I do anything I ask myself “Would an idiot do that?” And if the answer is yes, I do not do that thing. - Dwight Schrute
I bet FOTA will be able to purchase the Formula 1 name back for a decent price when Bernie and Co. realize noone is watching their events. I have a feeling FIA Formula 1 is going to be totally dominated by this series in TV viewership, race attendance, track revenue... every important fiscally related category.
OH YEAH and --- HD! Its about time. Pardon my ignorance as far as TV in European zones, but I live in the states, and anything I watch sports wise is in HD. Except Formula 1.
Maybe if this series costs less to purchase TV rights to, our American commentators may actually be able to attend the races instead of watching a bank of televisions in North Carolina. Anyone know what the deal with that is?

Errr, won't they also need to rename FOTA first. After all Formula One Teams are now the other blokes
Sorry for spoiling everyone's fun, but how is this any different from 2005's GPWC?
And before you answer "FOTA has Ferrari", please remember that they were also in GPWC, before signing on to the new deal with (the now-disputed) veto rights.
