Daniel is only 4 years younger than Lewis and the same age as Bottas. I think Mercedes are looking to find a future replacement for Lewis and that means finding someone much younger than him. Occon is only 23.Pany wrote: ↑08 Aug 2019, 09:58Since veestappen stays in redbull and since is certain ferrari must design a better car before changing drivers, is clear the only secure option for mercedes to replace Botta (if they really want to do it) is Riccardo. In addition Riccardo needs to move back quickly to a real Top team if he doesn't want end like Alonso. The circus would be better
can you give me a link to that article please?KeiKo403 wrote: ↑08 Aug 2019, 14:06well on the "to Bottas or not to Bottas?" question I've just read a article on ESPN comparing Gasly's performance vs Verstappen. One of the metrics used to measure was a points% comparison.
Vet->Lec was .84 - This to me reflects the gap in points awarded between 3rd(15)-4th(12) and 4th(12)-5th(10) places.
Ham -> Bot was .75, now while this gap is larger, so too is the difference in points awarded to 1st(25)-2nd(18) places.
Now although Hamilton and Bottas aren't finishing 1-2 in every race and, YES, Bottas should be doing better, if Hamilton is the Merc lead driver then we can't really expect more from Bottas than to be at 75% of Hamiltons points tally.
I think so long as Bottas remains above Verstappen in the standings then he could easily keep hold of his seat for next year. Keep in mind too that Bottas has had a DNF and couple of bad races and he's still where he should be (points% to Ham) if Hamilton should be winning every race.
Just found that stat interesting, to me anyway.
For the points you list, a comparison by %position would be betterKeiKo403 wrote: ↑08 Aug 2019, 14:06well on the "to Bottas or not to Bottas?" question I've just read a article on ESPN comparing Gasly's performance vs Verstappen. One of the metrics used to measure was a points% comparison.

Agreed, didn't know how quite to add it though without putting everything in brackets and then double brackets .subcritical71 wrote: ↑08 Aug 2019, 20:15For the points you list, a comparison by %position would be betterKeiKo403 wrote: ↑08 Aug 2019, 14:06well on the "to Bottas or not to Bottas?" question I've just read a article on ESPN comparing Gasly's performance vs Verstappen. Mercedes is looking for future beyond Lewis. They can safely experiment while he is still there. That rules out the likes of Rosberg and Alonso.KeiKo403 wrote: ↑09 Aug 2019, 10:14I really don't think Merc need Ocon though, he's been out of a F1 seat for a year by the time 2020 testing comes around.
If Merc feel the need to replace Bottas then they should go bold, Ricciardo, Vettel or Verstappen. If they want to go for a driver who's been out of F1 for 1 year+ then go hyper-bold and look at Alonso or Rosberg.
Turth be told, from a driver point of view I think Bottas ticks the necessary boxes and doesn't seem to be causing any rifts in the team like the above named drivers might. Could he have a bit more personality? maybe.
We don't really hear from him during races like we do with Hamilton though, but that's probably down to the F1 world feed and directors.
