It is very interesting to see that McLaren put the upper crash structure behind the radiators and the lower in front of them. RedBull in contrast got the whole radiator setup behind the two side impact crash pylons. Very different approach when it comes to radiator positioning.

Apparently McLaren has the most amount of cooling of all the Mercedes driven cars, maybe trying to avoid using louvres as much as possible (and keeping those for very hot days only, like in previous seasons)

I have a feeling that most teams have hidden ideas from the specs they ran in the Barcelona test.

It honestly makes sense to do so. Prepare something that follows the concept to verify correlation and validate planned upgrades for the test. And then unleash those unique ideas when racing starts to give other teams as little time as possible to copy them.

Especially when I look at the Mercedes, it enforces this opinion. It looks kind of vanilla. And McLaren looks a bit vanilla to the naked eye as well (although there are details on both of these cars).

James Key already confirmed that they are planning a significant upgrade for the first race in Bahrain. Andreas Seidl was beaming today on an interview on testing conclusion. He basically said that even after evaluating other team's solutions, they are happy with the route they have chosen and the upgrades in the pipeline will go through.

This is quite promising for this car. It seems like they have great correlation.

Can't wait for Bahrain now. I really want to see what upgrades McLaren (and all the teams) will unleash!

According to Mercedes, McLaren has found a way to avoid fluttering the ground and still drive low. On the rear part of the base plate, a long slot is embedded parallel to the edge, which is intended to prevent pumping because it offers the air a way out when the bottom bends downwards. Other teams also share this opinion. Haas took a big step towards solving the problem with a similar solution on the second day of the test.
