This could have always been the plan? garage seemed pretty relaxed and the car hasn't changed since Barcelona, apparently new parts tomorrow

What on earth have they changed on the brakes?
They’ve gone from looking like one of the strongest to a laughing stock.....
Maybe they didn't change anything?
Conditions here very different than Barcelona. Higher temps may have created cooling issues they didn't have before? Their brake ducts are tiny
Very true, it’s just a shame that an experienced engineering company didn’t check the weather and track layout before they flew to the desert
I can tell you that no matter how hard you prepare, you can't always account for everything.

If we had total control on our lives everyone would be happy, but that's not the case.

Sh!t happens sometimes, you can't turn back time. Just need to move forward and make the best out of it.

I truly hope they can amend the issue to be less severe so they can complete their program in the next two days, however I'm afraid that the final solution might require a new design which might not be ready by race 1.

Or maybe I'm overreacting to this... we will see.

It's nothing to do with the temperatures for overheating discs/pads or airflow, the issue is the with the ducts themselves rubbing the cake tin, hence the temp stickers all over. And no rush in the garage because they're waiting on some rapid prototyped parts overnight to hopefully fix it. What causes it I have no idea though, tight lipped on that front.

Not a perfect day but hey this is testing and some good learns to take away today.

Nice time on the hard tyre and just a couple of tenths off Ferrari who in some quarters are being pronounced as favourites- so doesn’t look all bad!

Was am amazed at how poor grip looked for many cars early on today and really day 3 with rubber laid down will be the best time to judge pace before Q1 next week.

All about building on a strong foundation.

The new Mercedes lack of sidepods is interesting and solutions from other cars seem to work also but I have a feeling that McLaren has found the best one and that ties to porpoising. I am convinced that all this up and down is costing a lot of time and it's gonna be painful due to vibrations to the car. I can even see them porpoising at turns and into breaks.

McLaren is the only team that isn't suffering from that.

Maybe porpoising might not cost time at all but who knows. I am hoping we can get an early lead into the championship by not suffering from it.

Does anyone have the best times set by each team on the tyres they used? For example it's much easier to compare C2 to C2 than C2 to C3.

Porpoising wont mean much if Merc is 15 kph faster on the straights.

It will if their drivers get sea sick half way through a Grand Prix.

Slimming sidepods does not reduce drag as much as you think. At some point, there are diminishing returns because ubdisturbed air will go to the rear tires instead, and that creates drag.

15 kmh is a huge difference and it is not attainable with the same aero configuration.

It’s testing, that’s the best place to find issues! It’s not a disaster.

Yes it's testing, you are supposed to test and do laps.
Hopefully they can get new parts asap otherwise this might put the team quite far behind in terms of understanding the car and all the new bits.
