Mercedes GP MGP W01

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Any chances for major updates this weekend?
The car is in the middle of nowhere when it comes to clawing closer to their rivals. It can reach the top 8 consistently but is lacking something. This week the car seemed more balanced, so maybe they will work on the down-force and suspension in terms of tyre degradation.
For Sure!!

I expected MS to be higher than he was (due to the skirmish at the start). I expect the cars to be 6 and 7 in the race. I don't expect many major updates until the European races.

a Picture from Australia GP. Notice the hole near exhaust pipe(on the right side which hasn't been there before), does it actually have any effect on performance?

Definitely a real hole as it even has the adjoining thin cut through to the exhaust, a la Ferrari, to make the hole legal.

I quoted this from ringo on page 13 of this thread this guys is awesome this is what I am talking about...

The only problem i have with the design is the underside, they should not have followed the contour of the upper surface. I would make it more like Newey's design and keep the underside as straight as possible. Mercs underside only acts to expand the air and increase pressure under the car, which is not desirable.
Newey style:

and I will add another pics that all the other team are adopting well off course maclaren is different because they used a plough instead, their approach is different but it serves the same as removing all those unwanted pressure from the underside of the car, because of the plough the air flows to the underside were being split to prevent the creation of too much pressure in the underside of the car. although renault is not included but their cars underside is using newy style design.

I agree with you ringo. if only merc have a design like this I just wonder how this could help their car in terms of sheer speed.

Thats in Sepang can you judge it if it BGP 001 or MGP W01, I was not sure though because of the shark fin... because the two picture above has a sharp pointed tail while this one is different, so i am not sure if its W01.

and If its not why bother take BGP car and show to the public and not the genuine W01, that was sponsored by Petronas?

I am very excited to watch this newey design of the nose, but sadly disappointed when i found out that its shark fin is like that of BGP 001. I am hoping that this is the W01, but not sure though...

I stand corrected bonjon. but whats their reason for not showing their W01 car to the public? I mean thats not the car that Petronas had invested on right?
