Williams FW48

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Is that SIS showing as a result of that missing panel? It doesn't look like it's intentional to have the panel missing

I think the panel just isn’t fitted yet; you can see the opposite side is covered with the panel that has the Estrella Galicia logo on it. I don’t think there’s any trickery going on.

Edit: It’s not the side impact structure but not sure exactly what it is. Could be any number of little components.

Thank you for all the pictures! Nice detail around the diffuser at least.

Hopefully the reliability can be sorted for the rest of the weekend. A full qualification and race running will be good learnings for the team.

According to Spanish comentator (Antonio Lobato) during FP2, the car is 30Kg overweigth.

Do not know where did he get that number, but if it is true, they can get a lot of lap-time only by getting lighter

How could it be so heavy, honestly? From a quick googling, the monocoque weighs about 100kg, I would imagine it's unlikely theirs is 130kg, it's not their first car. Similarly with wings and bodywork or stuff like that.

Also, there are so many heavy things that they buy from someone else, like the PU, gearbox, suspension components, brakes, wheels, and are supposedly well optimised for weight (since someone else is doing it)

It is rumored that they failed the crash test 5 times. I think that has something to do with it.

Get all 30 kg away in the season is impossible in my opinion.

That could be one of the reasons.

But no worries, because they have an aGgReSsIvE development strategy. The other teams are going to be amazed by the level of Williams's aggressiveness.

It’s obvious from lap times that we’re overweight and not producing enough downforce
