On a more "races cancelled note", Sky News reported that Stuart Pringle has proposed Silverstone host a second race, presumably the weekend after the British GP, to help fill the calendar.
Given I'm working at the BGP this year, I'm in favour....since it would likely mean I'd work at both so get twice the F1 action!!
Biggest downside I see is it would mean 5 races on the bounce. Though potentially the fact that 2 are in the same place and most teams are based nearby could mitigate this.
What do we all think of the idea?
Especially as, the longer the Iran conflict goes on, the more Qatar and Abu Dhabi are put at risk as well.
I really dont want to see repeat weekends at the same track. Especially back to back. If there were some way to meaningfully distinguish each race weekend, then
maybe, but F1 is a bit too rigid in its formula to be able to do this. And Silverstone doesn't really have any other F1-level alternate layout or anything.
Frankly, I'd welcome a reduction in race weekends overall in general. Obviously this current situation isn't ideal with not having any race in April at all, but there's just way too many races nowadays, especially with sprints. Each race becomes less meaningful and memorable as a result. 17 felt like it was pretty much perfect.
