I wonder if anything was wrong with Albon's car. It's a given he isn't as fast as Verstappen, but I doubt he was that slow. That's a huge gap to his team mate.
Ted was saying on his notebook that Albon was not happy with the pace of the car.
He also repeated the claim dietrich mateschitz told Helmut /marco to 'bring Sebastian home', but said he denied it.

I like Albon very much, but he is on thin ice and todays performance was not good enough. The team will know if he has an excuse
When arguing with a fool, be sure the other person is not doing the same thing.

And he also had similar kind of accident from last week.. he was lucky to not spin like last week

I believe Albon is consistently around .4-.5 seconds per lap slower then Verstappen and would give you an gap from around 30-40 seconds on a GP distance.
It is 0.7 Or so I would say. Gasly was even further off and even Ricciardo was 0.6 slower on average in their last season together. Look up the data. Max was making the biggest gap to a teammate even with Ric. Only williams had a bigger gap (comparable) between drivers that year.

The hard tyre didnot work at all compared to last week

I still dont understand why the tyres lat so long :wtf:
Why cant they bring softer tyres ?

70 races of experience in that car?
Plus 'Different strategy', slower car (I believe Verstappen is still using Albon's front wing and, possibly, other parts), concerns about fragility of the car and RBR desperately needed some guaranteed points on the board?

Pirelli probably thought the C1 would blister and possibly delaminate.

Hinesight is 20-20...

they had to make the choice a couple of months ago, trying to get a decent start of the season.

compared to other years, there are of course a few diffences:
- temps were down this weekend
- teams were overprepaired, cars dailed in, having done race (sims) last weekend :P
- qualifiing wasn't done on the starting tires, giving the softs much more life.

Is this based on Qualifying times? I've looked at 2018 and, even excluding Ricciardo being used as Verstappen's guinea pig the minute he announced he was leaving to go to a competitor, if you adjust using FP2 times where reliability prevented participation in Qualifying, then Verstappen is ahead, but it's by just over 1/10th on average.

Do we know why Verstappen didn't manage to beat Sainz's time? By the look of it he was more than half-a-second slower. Traffic? Reliability? No DRS?

I don't see the issue with having tyres that last. People are always complaining that Pirelli tyres are too fragile! So isn't it better that the tyres are hard and durable, and don't need to be nursed? :)
