McLaren will run a new experimental nose on Sainz car in Mugello FP1 to gather data for comparison with wind tunnel simulations.

New nose cone tip is more aligned with the Mercedes/Racing Point/Renault version than with the older needle nose in the style of Red Bull/Ferrari/McLaren approach.

Very different concept indeed! Following the Merc / RP / Renault trend but with some interesting bits on the side.

Could this new nose impact the front wing style?
Q: (Stefano Mancini – La Stampa) Kimi, will you help Vettel to win his championship this year?
Kimi Raikkonen: I can only drive one car, obviously.

seing how much they are already preparing for next year, with testing/verifying new nosecone and next years floor and its implications, they just seem so on top of things and very ambitious about next year, me like =D> and with a merc PU in the back... next year could be interesting as well

Is this the first step towards a low rake car for next year?

I was wondering the same thing. With the new floor regs I’m not sure where running a high rake will be possible as they may struggle to seal it

That said, with the team hoping to have the nose on the car In a race or 2, I guess it’s not related
