Or it could have been the 'offer you cannot accept'. It may habe been short term low money or some stipulation about Max being frontman.
They probably got wind of him considering leaving Mclaren and made a speculative bid in case he just wanted out of Mclaren and 'tried it on'

I think if it was a serious offer Alonso would have gone for it as he has not retired, just 'resting'
When arguing with a fool, be sure the other person is not doing the same thing.

I think the dilemma McLaren is facing is that Noris might be the star of tomorrow and the team may be faced with either promoting him to F1 or losing him. Not sure if they need to promote him to their own team or if they could 'loan' him to another (TR?), but that's probably why they are putting him up against Stoffel in FP1 this weekend. To gauge the young new prospect against the old one (Stoffel).
Red Bull will not accept him on loan. What's in it for them? Why should they develop a talent for a rival team? The only way he lands the TR drive is if McLaren release him in exchange for Key.

I think the RB talent pool is thin at the moment and they very well could steal a couple of rival protege's. Vandoorne and Ocon for example.

If I were Red Bull, I'd try all I could to get Vandoorne in a Toro Rosso. I think he's massively underrated and driving a bad car which Alonso is flattering!
Should he not then be flattering it as well?
In my opinion and it gets very hard to do detailed analysis on drivers in the mid-low mid field Vandoorne was a match for Alonso in 2017. He has been smashed in qualifying this year but I don't think there's very much between them on Sunday's. Alonso's level has been incredibly high and he's made a fortune out of driving bad cars.

Considering the circumstances, the car and the team mate I would at least give Vandoorne another year. I'm adamant he had a tremendous 17 and his terrible Saturday's have made his 18 look worse than it actually is.

My sources told me that Verstappen put veto on Sainz, but he has only one veto to put and now team decided to bring Alonso to teach him a lesson and to evaluate how good Verstappen is.
My sources were right , but Alonso refused offer from red bull.

I'm a bit confused as to why everyone thinks Ocon is McLaren bound? I think he will end up @ Williams in exchange for cheap engines.

RedBull didn't offer him a seat so your sources aren't right at all.

Actually, if you read the words, he doesn't say that :) These are Horner's actual words from the podcast:
"tended to cause a bit of chaos" at other teams and would therefore not be "the healthiest" choice for Red Bull
And the RedBull spokesperson just denied making Alonso an offer, but didn't deny opening discussions with him. I think we'll find out after this weekend, after the media people grill Horner a bit.

I personally thing that there maybe was a question asked about his status, Alonso informed them he was retiring and that's it.

PS: Just to be clear, I'm not calling neither Alonso nor RB liars, it's just funny how they speak about different things.

I understand your frustration radosav........if you are being legit :) It is so difficult to have a source that you cannot expose and also be able to share the information. This is due to posters who lie about their source being genuine attempting to give their opinion on something more credibility. It is very difficult for people reading the posts to know when it is genuine and when it is not. I have a source in Redbull Factory who is in a position to give me some interesting information on the technical side of things, not driver related other than internal rumuors. Now first question is am I telling the truth? :). I say I am and that it is a pity that I do not feel that I can say anything here that he/she has told me that would be of interest without the demands to expose him/her. So as a result I keep it to myself and would rather not as there are very bright people here who could add value to it, and at times help me to understand it better as well.

True. You can only share very basic info so you don't expose your source.

This makes less and less sense...

Ok, I can understand rejecting them in 2007 because they were a fizzy drinks company and maybe 2009 because he had the Ferrari deal, but 2011 makes 0 sense. It was in the middle of a set of regulations that Red Bull was obviously dominating, why not go there and beat Vettel in front of the whole world?
