I think that history will show that this story has been shared in a misleading way.

Sainz Sr and Toto Wolff have no connection. It seems logical that Sainz Sr wanted to open negotiations for the Mercedes seat and Toto Wolff would not have any reason to discuss it with him unless he knew Hamilton was leaving. But of course this is speculation. Hamilton is 1 of 20 drivers on the grid. If it had involved a different name, no one would think anything of it.

I think it's his cousin? (Also named Carlos Sainz, lol!)
This family has a one track mind lol.

I mean, why is anyone surprised? Should Sainz not try to find the best seat available? After Ferrari dropped him he doesn’t owe them anything, he and his team need to look out for his future. Now as it turns out there was no other top seat available to him, but that’s irrelevant, you’ve got to try.

What? He's literally on contract with the team until Abu Dhabi still. Of course he owes them something. The people in Maranello are still working hard on his behalf and he is still getting paid to perform.

I'm not saying he isn't doing this - I think he's done well this year. But it's factually wrong to say he doesn't owe the team anything, he still works for them right now...

Anyone who poses any real threat to any british driver gets that treatment. Alonso wears that with lots of pride, Vettel crumbled under that pressure, Schumacher gave exactly zero effs about it, Rosberg couldn't take it after winning his title. We'll see how Leclerc reacts to true british bias next year, he'll have Norris and Piastri (as honorary brit as long as he's winning) in McLaren and Hamilton as his team mate...
And they call it a stall. A STALL!

Nobody is upset he called toto. We are amused at toto gently moving him aside to look for someone else.

I'm not talking about driving. I'm saying he doesn't owe them any discretion in negotiating a new deal for himself when they ditched him.

His contract ended, they just had no intention to renew. That’s not ditching.

Totally lost respect for DC as a result of this comment.

Leclerc has been as consistent as anyone else on the grid over the past 8-12 months. He's not made any more errors than the likes of Verstappen, Hamilton, Norris, Russell.

To mention Leclerc as someone needing to polish his driving, but not critique Norris, who has certainly had just as many (if not more) lapses/mistakes/"off" weekends than Leclerc this season (with Norris driving a faster, more consistent, well-rounded car), shows DC's tremendous bias.

Let me know when DC starts talking about Verstappen's missteps as a result of his frustration with Red Bull's loss of pace, or Norris' inability to consistently maximize results, or Russell cleaning up his (frequent) mistakes/crashes ... and then I'll be OK with these comments about Leclerc. Until then, DC is a biased hypocrite.

He actually did say Norris needs to step up his game, but he said it in nicer terms. I just don't really understand why Leclerc needs to be compared to a misbehaving animal while Norris is coddled... but whatever.

As Vanja said, the British bias will only get worse next year, so we all need to get used to it.

DC has always been a mediocre dirty driver. Nobody cares about his opinion, least of all anyone on the current grid.

Yet he defended Norris recently on his podcast.

Hill similarly loves to dump on Charles.

A bit rich to dismiss someone as mediocre who has more career wins than your two current drivers combined
