There has been excitement about this car since the beginning of the season, it is a great car! Soooo aerodynamically efficient, it is clear now, but perhaps not quite getting the levels of downforce that others are through the corners. I'm not sure it is peak performance, I think it is more likely how the transition in the corner is handled but that is just "gut instinct".
BUT... it's a car which has progressed season on season, and each time we get closer to the front. Now we are close enough that on the right track we are sniffing the backsides of the teams in front and getting in front when they slip up, and even in front on merit, like Lando nearly was in Belgium.
Our first 1-2 is not a sign of how great a car this is, it has some fundamental flaws, but a reward for how the team has been brought back together and made to push in the same direction with the right quality.
And I've made this statement several times. I am disappointed with Daniels season, but his ability goes beyond driving. His approach, mentality, fun and professionalism are all an example to a young Lando. And in these moments when he has the car in a good spot, having the pedigree and the calmness to get past Max quickly and then perform wonderful defensive driving from Max for many laps is priceless.
For me, Daniel went a large part yesterday in making up for not the best first half of a season.
A win will not do much for this team beyond morale, but it is a nice sign of where we are headed.
Let's keep that Papaya Rolling (Trademarked 2021)
