Yes, that's right. So we would have pre-qualifying, with the two slowest cars put back on the trailer. Pre-qualifying was fairly common several years ago.

That does not address the safety issue. As I recall, at least some of the tracks were judged to be unsafe beyond a certain number of cars. Of course, that might be the result of some logical, scientific study, therefore of no value to Spanky and Ickystone.

I would be more tempted to put money on Aston Martin going into F1 with Cosworth engines. Aston Martin have just launched a car (the one-77) which uses a 7.3 litre cosworth engine so the ties are quite good, Aston is owned by Dave Richards who has made no bones about wanting to enter F1 and they are backed by the middle east who are happier now the oil price is above $50 per barrel.

Volvo are owned by Ford, who have no money.....

What is guaranteeing that the 10 teams that are currently in F1 will still remain?

It is pretty ballsy to guarantee 26 cars in the current economic climate.

Who knows, Toyota, Renault and STR may all be gone next year.........

From what I hear, Volvo's project is taking shape as we speak and yes, Conceptual is right, it is directly paid for by men-in-suits from Dearborn MI, in a marketing-effort for Volvo Cars to potential Asian investors.

Kenny Brack has been mentioned with the project, but also Eje Elgh in the capacity of advisor on drivers.

Why won't they use their own engines

Now that's a very good question. I wonder if it would be possible to de-stroke their V8 to 2.4l?

Why invest a hundred million to make an engine when Cosworth still has a homologated version that would surely get clearance for some "reliability upgrades" that include a new OEM logo...

There you go, Cosworth and Volvo used to be on the same "tree" not long ago, while Tom Walkinshaw was running Cosworth's with Arrows in F1 and Volvo's in BTCC.

A match made in heaven me thinks, I also hear sponsorship from IKEA and Absolut Vodka is in the pipeline.

im a bit confused about the engines for these new teams. Cosworth? well, isnt it the case that the special projects devision that did the F1 engines is no longer a part of the company?
we have a rule where the manufacturers are only allowed to supply one addition team. what will brawn do next year when it could not be considered an exceptional circumstance?
whats happening with the standard transmission?

there seem to be a lot of statements flying around, but not a lot of engineering going on

F1 has become purely a marketing exercize. What other open-wheel series on the planet actually focuses on racing? I am in need of something different.
