Binotto: "Today you could see the 20hp difference compared to the others. We know it exists, but it should not make us lose morale because we are working on it for next season."

If the difference are 20 hp only, we probably will see a much more competitive Ferrari after bringing the upgraded PU with rumored 15 hp increase.
I’m asking myself how much more of a hp difference there is in qualifying setting.
15? Where did that come from? It was 10 last time I heard. Funny how a guess becomes the truth if enough people believe it

Truth is, it’s an ERS upgrade, so unlikely to be any actual HP increase in reality, just able to deploy longer
Maybe you didn’t hear enough. 15 hp was mentioned first actually - in this very thread.

Ferrari testing with the sf71h once again. Could they have been testing this new ers system all this time?

Software maybe. Anything else would be huge gray area.

I've always wondered what they ARE allowed to test. Can they test 2022 parts? Can they test CURRENT spec parts? I mean, are they allowed to have a "test" SF21 that they can do what they want with it?

They can't run anything that's less than 2 years old, I think.

Bolting on current or proposed parts on to an old car would be a breach of the whole idea of the ban on in-season testing.

What about when they build the Pirelli test-mules? Like the 2015 cars with the modified parts to simulate the DF levels of 2017... Just special exemptions?

I think so. The modifications aren't legal parts anyway in most cases because they ran things like partial skirts.

Now I'm pretty convinced they're engine testing.

I’m not so sure Ferrari would cheat so openly, besides, if they ran into engine trouble then let’s hope they definitely weren’t

They're not running the 2022 engine in there, and even if they were, it isn't cheating because nothing has been homologated. This is about calibrating the simulator

Getting the new simulator correlated correctly is paramount. If its off going into next season, they'll be behind the 8 ball for years.

It's not cheating. You arnt allowed to test new cars or car updates but rules arnt so clear about engine testing.
Besides, even after 2019, I still feel that Ferrari are still the same team who'll abuse the --- out of the regulations for any minor advantage. Which is very good.

They'll have the FDA drivers in the car today, and I wonder whether that's about getting them used to F1 cars or whether the young drivers are also helping with the sim work
