Incredible lap from Lando! I see Mclaren pulling off their second win in a row! That would be Insane! Mclaren are 1 of the strongest cars off the line with 1 of the highest top speeds lately. Hopefully its enough to hold everybody off! Should be an exciting race!
Ayrton Senna: Pure driving, pure racing, that´s what makes me happy.
That Ferrari is a fast starting car though, gonna be a worry down to the first corner.
I'd make a case for McLaren being the fastest starting car. Having a slippy car will also help on that long run down to turn 1. Can't discount Russell or Hamilton getting in the mix either when they get there.
first corner is a piece of cake - its the second corner you gotta worry about. Anyways, at least McLaren have a car that can be equal to any in an out n out drag
This is the side by side of Lando vs Carlos best Qualy laps, very interesting from a deployment strategy stand point, it would seem that Carlos used most of his ERS in the first portion of the lap (keeping his gap on the main straight), but by the time they got to the back straight, Lando had more in store to build a gap… Also impressive how he created most of his delta in S3 (where I would have expected the Ferrari to have an edge):
In case the link from Youtube is taken down, below is the link to the article in Formula1.com:
Bizarrely pole here might not be the best because of the slipstream effect on the long run to turn 2.
I was thinking last night how it would be bad if a Mclaren started on the second row....

Sainz just needs to sit and get the Tow, it might be better not to get past immediately.
Looking at past starts at Sochi, and comparing the Ferrari and Williams, if Lando gets a good start, in my opinion would make more sense for Lando to tow the Ferrari since it has less straight line speed, so even if Carlos pulls along side Lando, he will still have a edge into the second corner, the Williams is one of the fastest on the straights this weekend, make sense for Lando to instantly move over to the right side, or allow Carlos to slot in between him and Russell, the only risk would be if Carlos gets in front, I don't see him being able to pass on outright pass
Best tactic may be to tuck in behind Carlos into turn 2, and save deployment for the back straight to repass. Using deployment to keep the lead may leave Lando a sitting duck later in the lap.
All I can say is good luck to Lando and Daniel and remember our initial target. Finish in front of both Ferraris and gain as many more points as possible than them. I don't expect Mclaren to be able to fight a fully charged Hamilton but I am sure they will do what they can. I am sure that Lando will repass Sainz even if he loses first place at the start as his car is faster on the straights. Whatever happens it was a worthy pole position.
