It's the legacy of the garistes -- small racing teams based near Silverstone...
I think the correct term is 'garagistas' - garage owners.

There's always a chance of a collision at the front row too. With Ferrari and Mclarent in a battle for third this could lead to some hard defending

Why would Bottas need a 5th PU?

Cannot imagine Merc would put him at the back to hinder Max, Bottas is usually so much slower through the field than Max, that that would be a huge gamble. In his current starting position Bottas can help Lewis , e.g create a gap so Lewis can undercut the leaders. And it is also a better position to block Max.

I'm guessing with 2 fresh PU's he would be able to run them both hard in all races remaining, making him more competitive and useful in both championships.

Red Bull has given up on the constructors championship anyway, I think. Pitting Perez to steal the fastest lap instead of fighting for points made it fairly obvious, a couple of races ago.

I'm a bit surprised to see the Bottas engine change, but it's his best track, and the car looks superiour as well. I guess they believe he is still able to beat Verstappen - and probably rightly so

Brilliant move by Merc designed to slow down Max’s attempt at charging through the field.

Ruthless tactics.

I remember people shitting on Ferrari when they intentionally broke the gearbox seal on Massas car.

Are they allowed to change the engine in Parc Ferme for no reason? I thought parts needed to be damaged and that needs to be shown to the stewards?

But that didn't benefit Massa at all. At least this gives Bottas another new Power Unit which will make him ultra competitive in all remaining races.
