f1 technical video

Post

Hey everyone, I just stumbled onto this site today and all I can say is wow... good find. I'm an 18 year old student preparing to go to college next year to study mechanical engineering and my ultimate career goal is to become a race engineer on a formula 1 team.

I've been looking for some videos/dvds/books explaining formula 1 technology (most interested in video/dvd). I'm currently working on Carrol Smiths collection and the Milliken Race Car Vehicle Dynamics text, but would like a more f1 focused experience. If anyone knows of anything i might be interested in please post. Thanks.

"Competition Car Downforce" by Simon McBeath is a good book to understand the basic principles of car aerodynamics.

Videos might be harder to come down to... motorsport is a highly secretive business. Speed TV has had access to some technology (last year's BAR transmission) but they weren't told anything specific; they were just told that it was hard to make.

The "technical" part of my Le Mans 2003 video was nothing more but a showcase of Nasamax's intent on running on bio-ethanol. It only stated that the fuel vaporzises much more than a gasoline engine, at high ambient temperatures.

Publishings are your best bet; you might want to try Race Engine Technology (a quarterly issue on racing engines). Racecar Engineering is pretty good too.

I have both books and the video you mentioned...

the video isn't that good...it's more a look at the "backstage" of F1 not exactly a technical look.

Both books are very good....
